Intermediate shaft bearing replacement
So searched but couldn't find info for this. Can the bearing go bad? I have a loud humming coming from the front louder at high speeds. I thought it was a hub bearing but when I jacked the car up the axle moved at the point where they connect. (axle and intermediate shaft) so I don't think that should happen. Any thoughts?

Re: Intermediate shaft bearing replacement
what's likely going on is that one of the raceways (in your case inboard on the passenger side or outboard on the drivers side) has some pitting or other damage. when the weight of the car shifts turning left more load is transfered to the opposite, ok raceway so the noise stops.
you didn't mention which year model you have but either way it's not a terrible job replaceing the hub bearing if you have a good set of tools and access to a press.

Re: Intermediate shaft bearing replacement
O sorry it's a 94 ex manual. I'm not familiar with the term raceway as a part reference. I replaced the passenger side hub bearing and it still does it. I feuds I'll pull the drivers Friday and see what happens.
Thanks
Thanks

the raceway is the polished groove inside the bearing that the ***** ride in.

Re: Intermediate shaft bearing replacement
I can't really tell which side. When I bought the car a year ago the passenger hub was loose. So I figured it was the bad one. There cheap to replace so I'll do it tomorrow. Thanks for the info. Nice to be working on cars for 19 years and still learn something new.
