interchangeable parts - 1996 Accord
Hey guys, so I'm picking up 1996 accord 4 door 2.2 auto, I wanted to know what other Honda cars are out there which I can get some parts - interior, exterior, suspension, braking etc... I'm heading towards OEM+ modifying, maybe leather seats from 90s Acuras fit without any mods? Or maybe little pieces, like lights, some luxury parts - cup holders, dimming mirrors etc? Not looking for any "performance" updates or lowering, or Altezza rear lights with stupid chinese hids...

Re: interchangeable parts - 1996 Accord
There are a couple things that are interchangeable.
Starting with brakes, there a good amount of "OEM" options. The stock coupe & sedan come with something like 10.2" front rotors, and standard single piston calipers. The Wagon and V6 however, came with 11.1" rotors, and a larger single piston caliper (equivalent in size to the DC2 Type R calipers). So the simplest braking upgrade would be to get Wagon/V6 rotors and calipers and throw them on. HOWEVER, its easier said than done, because the Accord uses a horrendous captive rotor (hub over rotor, or HOR) knuckle setup. Meaning, pulling the rotors off involves removing the hubs/bearings....its a giant pain without the right tools. If you have access to the tools, or don't mind paying to get them swapped its not really an issue then.
There is however an OEM solution. You just need to find the front knuckles from a '98-'99 Acura 2.3CL (not a 97, it has the same Accord style knuckles, and the 3.0 V6 are also different). The 1st Generation CL was based off the 5th Gen Accord chassis, so many parts are interchangeable. If you can find a complete 2.3CL knuckle setup, then you are in business. Its direct bolt on, and utilizes the common rotor over hub (ROH) setup like most other Hondas, and is a breeze to work with. With the CL setup, you will still have the 10.2" brake rotor and smaller calipers. BUT, swapping to a larger setup is a piece of cake. For rotors, grab from a '93-'96 Prelude VTEC trim. They are 11.1", and 4x114 so direct bolt on. To compensate for the larger rotors, just use the larger Wagon/V6 calipers. That's the most basic OEM+ brake upgrade. You can also go with other OEM calipers if you so desire.....the dual piston calipers from the Legend GS, and front NSX also work. will further improve brake performance feel.
Being you have an LX, you have rear drums. The EX model came with ABS and rear discs, so swapping in the rear disc is a relatively straight forward task. if you can find a junked EX sedan or coupe (not wagon, they are different), grab the whole rear suspension.....trailing arms, subframes, control arms, etc. Its honestly easiest to install it all at once in one large piece. Plus, by swapping to the EX subframe, you gain a rear sway bar, since the LX did not have one (the EX also has a slightly larger front sway bar you could swap to as well). If you can also find a DA Integra 40/40 proportioning valve to install with the rear disc, that will help you take full advantage of the upgrade (the stock EX one is not usable since its meant for ABS equipped cars). Honda Tuning did a write up back in the day:

And while you're doing the brakes, it would be a good time to replace the old worn rubber brake lines with SS braided ones. Also, inspect and replace the master cylinder, booster, and any bushings that need it. I didn't believe it until I did it myself, but a refreshed braking system is a night and day difference.
As far as other upgrades, since you have a sedan, the options will be a bit more limited. If you had a coupe, a good many parts are interchangeable with the Acura CL.....I just recently switched to a CL leather interior in my Coupe. For the Accord, leather seats were optional on the EX, but fairly uncommon. The front CL seats will bolt up. You won't be able to utilize the power options unless you want to wire that in, however. But they will install, and actually since they are meant for a coupe, will have a bit more side bolster support as well. A good majority of CLs came with leather seats, so it may be easier to find those. Your car has the Type B gray interior correct? If you are looking for CL parts, look for Type F interior. Its the closest to the stock Accord gray.

For headlights, if you want to ditch the hazed stock ones, there are a few options. If you want to spend the money, the Japanese market lights are much better looking, and have two styles; chrome or blackhoused. They can be pricey though, at $250+ a set. There is a cheaper option though, Depo makes a replica of the blackhoused lights, and they are pretty cheap. And they are great quality, and include everything needed to plug and play.

If you want to upgrade your steering wheel, you can use one from an S2000, 97+ Prelude, EK Civic, etc....many other the Hondas in that era shared the same steering column spline.
Another luxury item you can get for fairly cheap are JDM powerfolding mirrors.

That's about all the plug and play stuff i can think of right now. There is obviously a ton more you could do with enough time and custom work. I've seen some pretty crazy OEM parts retrofitted over the years, it really just depends on how far you want to go.

That's about all the plug and play stuff i can think of right now. There is obviously a ton more you could do with enough time and custom work. I've seen some pretty crazy OEM parts retrofitted over the years, it really just depends on how far you want to go.

Re: interchangeable parts - 1996 Accord
The steering wheel on my 96 Accord has deteriorated from the elements. I found a 94 in near perfect condition. Is the Cruise Control switch and Air bag transferable to the 94 steering wheel and will everything function properly? i.e. Are the electrical harness plugs and mounting screw holes compatible?
Thanks

The proportioning valve on my 1996 Accord LX 4 door is leaking. I have the F22B2 engine. It looks difficult to replace. Do you happen to have, or know where I can obtain a step by step guide for removal and replacement? Thank you!

It isnt that hard to replace once you use a flare wrench. Hardest part is finding a replacement that isnt leaking itself
