Idea for making window switches light up on our accords..
ok... im not rice, but ive got some led's layin round that i figured id put to use. plus, im not lookin to be rice or gay, just figured i might add a lil class to my car (96 accord sedan ex 5 spd)
in my 96 accord, the window switches arent lit up at night..which sucks cause its kinda cool in cars that do that (least i like it).
so, i was thinkin..instead of just running a wire to the led that turns on when the lights come on, why not run an LED that comes on when your pushing the switch to either roll up or down the window.
and thats easy..not what this thread is about. what i'd like to do, is to have one led color when the window is being rolled up (say blue) but when you roll it down, its another (say red).
obviously you'd need 2 diff led's..and wiring one led to come on when you hit the switch either way would be simple.
but what about a diff color depending on the direction the switch is being pushed? what would that entail? would i have to buy a diff resistor or somethin or another lil relay type thing to wire in line w/one of the led's? or is it just as simple as wiring it a certian way?
figured i'd get some info b4 i dove into it.
thanks in advance for any help.
also, if your into this type of thing and have any other idea's for wiring led's (aside from making the floorboards light up w/is tacky IMO) hit me up w/it.

All you really need to do to make it light up when functioning is find a wire that is hot only when the switch is depressed. Then for mounting it, just do something that isn't tacky. I'd just use one color though. I don't know why you would need to figure out if your window is going up or down. As for other ideas with LED's, why don't you do the whole interior? I hated the orange lighting on my talon so i did every bulb blue. Kind of a bitch to do but was worth it. I understand that they now have LED's that atleast screw into where the stock bulb would go which makes mounting easier but i think you still need to wire them the same way. I've been thinking of making all my dash lights white but you need to splice alot of wires so I don't want to kill my resale value.

i just wanted it to light up diff depending on the direction of the switch.. i mean, i dont want the bulb sticking out or anything.. it'll be behind the switch under the cover.
as far as doing the whole interior, i forget the site but ve got it bookmarked where they make replacement LED's for our cars and ive seen one that has had all the bulbs replaces w/blue LED's...looks awesome. prob is, its like $15.00 for the blulb that goes in the door light... kinda pricey. ya can drop $100.00 is just bulbs for the interior.
i have these layin round and i figured why not?

They actually make led with dual colors built in. Since leds only lite upand conduct electricity when voltage is applied in one direction they make leds packaged so that 1 led is hooked up in parrallel but reverse to a second led. You just change which pin is grounded and which one gets the voltage, the color changes. The selection of colors is limited. I agree with lighting them up but I would do it so they are lit up with the interior lights.

Pardon me for asking, cuz I never made it to Rocket Scientist school. But could you please explain how I could enjoy watching my switch light up while my thumbs activating it? Last time I looked, I couldn't see thru my thumb. Unless you're talking about indirect lighting-and that's too rice, like disco ***** and strobing to music.
Now, if you want to think up a way so as to illuminate the picto-gram from the inside (like all the other switches) so I could find the little suckers in the dark, then you've got something

I was also wondering what benifit you would reap from having them light up only when activated. I'd prefer they lit up with the running lights, like all the others.

You can use any LED's you want for the interior. I personally used radioshack ones for my talon because i didn't know you could buy 100 on ebay for $20. They were like $2 a piece. Figure $20 total. Just throwing that out there.

Here's an idea too. A redneck country boy hick friend of mine rigged up his piece of **** (not a honda) so that he can run from the local sheriff at night if need be. He has a few hidden switches to turn off the brake lights, back up lights, and turn signals. He can completely disappear with nothing but his headlights...I thinks its smart and its saved him more than one ticket. It'd be nice to have for tailgaters too (may they burn in hell)! Depending on how you rigged it you could simply splice into the original wiring and instal a break/switch in the wiring. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe there's too much amperage that a small switch couldn't handle it, but then again electrical is my achile's heel.

hey hey..when i came up w/the idea i had a nasty migrane and was under the influence of some decently strong meds..gimme a lil break!!!
and again, i have these led's left over from a while back on a failed project (liek most of my projects). i figured i'd get flamed a lil bit, so i dont really care
P_Aams..
you'd be able to see the light around the switch.. i mean, your thumb or finger is not a black hole that will suck up light..it'll still illuminate around your finger. plus, i didnt think it was too gay of an idea. i thought it might add a lil class to my car! since it woudlnt be all gaudy* and stuff..neon hanging everywhere or whatever (which I have all stock bulbs and no extra lights BTW).

im just messing with you man, if you want to make your switches light up then by all means go for it. i didnt bother to go through every post in this thread but i do remember someone saying something about dual color leds, and hes right, they make multi colored leds with up to 6 or more colors if you want, thats for gauges though, however only using 2 wouldnt be a bad idea to fit into where you want it to.
