Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
Thanks for the help guys, original size of the bolt was 14mm.
I am using exactly same material but in 7/16:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-1-...1#.UbXXxJz3OiQ
Also tried using same as this one but in smaller size:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee...7#.UbXXpJz3OiQ
Should I go and get something larger than 14mm? Another thing to note is, I am using cordless drill(battery operated). Is it good or I need electric drill?
Thanks for all the help

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
So I tried using 9/16 today, but still edges are kinda there, I am not sure how to pull the damn bolt
Please see the pictures one side edge is almost gone while the other side is still present.
How should I remove that head?Any tips or suggestions?

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
I am almost at the end of the cutting but edges are still there and its VERY VERY SLOW to chip off the edges?
Is it normal or I am doing something wrong? If I use some strong chisel and hammer the edges will it cut or I will damage the head/block?
Guys, any feedback, tips or suggestions to Drill this last bolt?

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
Guys, a quick update.
Thanks so much for all the help, cooperation and guidance.
Gladly, I am able to crack the bolt head and pulled the head tonight
I can't say 'Thank you' enough for all the help, patience and cooperation.
Couple of quick lessons, mistakes and advises for others:
1- Use drilling bits only meant for drilling into 'Metal'. Start with 4mm bit with a pilot hole in the center, then go in steps of 2-4mm.
2- 9/16" should be the final bit, because size of the bolt head is 14mm.
3- Use lil bit of grinding stone, before using 9/16', chisel and hammering should be the final step.
4- If you are unable to completely remove the head of the bolt, don't stress out, remove all other 9 bolts and pry the head up, it will automatically break the head for the last bolt.
5- Remaining portion of the bolt in the block can be removed with a vice grip, open end wrench or a channel.
Please PM me for any questions or any information.

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
Right on man! Glad your perseverance paid off in the end.
One little comment for others in the future re: your point #4: I would be very hesitant to get anything between the block deck and head for prying, esp. if there is still a portion of the bolt head holding down the head. I would suggest exhausting all options up top at the actual bolt head before levering, reason being that you absolutely do not want to mark the mating surfaces of either the head and especially not the block. Even if you're having the head machined, you want to reduce the amount of material they have to take off, and chances are you aren't going to plane the block, so any mark you leave will cause big problems.
...anyways, just something to think about, now go have a beer...or three

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
Thanks so much for this helpful write up and sticky.
It's really helpful and informative
I am doing the EXACT same thing on F22B1 and need help and advice.
Questions:
1-How should I pull the head-bolts off? They seem to be a PITA, I tried using impact didn't work, breaker bar--no luck. Then finally used a big cheater pipe and was able to break the lower bolts while upper ones, still they don't budge, any special trick for it and are they the same size as lower ones(14)?
2-Do I have to remove the Alternator and engine mounts to remove the Head?
3-What's the name of the sensor/switch and how will it come out on the left side of block and back side of upper radiator hose entrance?
4-How will I be able to slide/remove the Timing belt off of camshaft without removing crank pulley bolt?
Please help and advice would really appreciate all the input.

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
I'm removing my head due to a bent valve and I've done multiple head gaskets on the civics but my first Accord I've been told and have seen ppl remove the head with the intake still attached instead of fighting with those bottom botls was looking to get any info if this is a good idea or anyone else done I this way...which one is easier I'm prolly going to try removing while attached but what do you guys think

Re: How to: Replace Headgasket F22B2
From the top, use a ratcheting box end if your normal ratchet is too big.
From the bottom, remove the oil filter and use a ratcheting box end on the 10mm head sized nuts.
Remember to remove the manifold stay(black steel bracket) that supports the mainfold and anything else that you may need.
Biggest PITA for me was just locating all the correct O-rings and such nonsense.
While you have the intake off, best time to take advantage and replace the heater core hoses.
