Hi, my girlfriend has a '96 LX with just an intake, cat-back and header right now. I have an '06 Evo, it's stock in terms of suspension. My girlfriend wants her Accord to handle like my car does. We want it to be stiff and extremely responsive.
My question is this: If she were to get Tokico HP's with springs, some sticky tires (I was thinking dunlop direzza star specs), front and rear sway bars, would it make a huge difference in the way the car feels? Do you guys think it would handle like my evo?
We don't want to spend $1500 on her car and not be satisfied with the end results.
I'm not too knowledgeable about the Honda aftermarket community, if you guys could give me any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

that car will never handle like an evo. each car handles and feels differently as you probably know. i dont know what you would spend your 1500 on but just invest it in some nice coilovers and struts and be done. i dont think shes looking to autox or anything. or just give her your evo if that makes her happy. but can girls really feel the difference?

Your girlfriend should buy an Evo if she wants a car to handle like one. At 20 I personally don't think you should have an Evo yourself. But who am I to say that.

There are plenty of threads to improve the handling of the Accord, if you can't find them you are blind and shouldn't attempt modifying one.

I dont think the Accord is a good car to track in anyway.

koni/gc, 23 mm rear sway bar, chassis reinforcement:lower tie bar, engine bay bar, trunk bar, etc, corner balancing, sticky tires, light weight wheels, re-do bushings....you get the idea.
wont be an evo but will see a huge improvement

this guy is right as far as it never being able to handle "like an evo". girls can feel the difference, even though they might not know exactly what makes the difference.

he already posted that he'd get Dunlop Z1 star specs which are better (in almost all aspects) than the Azenis.

Its all good, i've seen 30-40 year old evo owners act like they're 15. and vice versa.

finally some good advice.

the best advice I can personally give, is to get your GF some seat time at a sanctioned road course or autocross event. while you're at it, get yourself some seat time too. I had the most fun with my evo at track events and autocrosses. you quickly realize its not always about the car, but the actual person driving it.

sticky tires (like the Z1's) go a LONG way in terms of handling.

go to local craigslist website, click make new ad. write out ad for accord for $1000 under blue book. sell said accord.

add that to the 1500 go to the mitsubishi dealership. BS with some salesman that is going to make a fortune off your ***, drive away in your new evo

Like TOO MUCH TORQUE said, front and rear sways, front, back, top, bottom strut bars and (if you're on a budget too tight for coilovers) a Bilstein/Eibach strut/spring Combination plus some real sticky tires. All that can be had for under $1500.

But the Accord will never handle like an Evo anymore than my Accord will handle like my Miata. The tales of the tape are just too different. If you wanted a straight up faster car in a straight line, I'd tell you to get a new car, but to make a car handle better is almost always a good decision. I haven't ran into anyone that was truly disappointed after they have upgraded their suspension.

oh yeah, you mentioned that you didnt know too much about the honda aftermarket community. based on the responses in this thread, you should have a pretty good indicator of what its like.

Thank you for your advice guys. I was surprised to check the thread this morning and see 14 replies already. I've done a lot of searching, but the majority of the threads about accord suspension are people looking for lowering advice only. All my questions have been answered, I'll talk it over with her.

lol this thread delivers. It wont ever handle like an EVO, its FWD and not AWD. You can put a nice set of coilovers,tires,wheels on it and lower it. Put in sway bars in the front,back,and there is one that goes inside the car (at least in civics). it will handle alot better, but still not like an evo.

ya the ecnobox we modify for the track usually is the 92-95 civic, with the double wishbone upfront left pretty much stock minor **** like coilovers and bushing replacment. , sometimes going as far as a 2 cbr600 rear shock and spring assembly cantilever setup for the rear

Out of all the kids in high school whose parents bought them cool cars how many were in an accident/wrecked/etc before they turned 20? Why do you think insurance is so high? Why do all statistics point to that age group being the most reckless when it comes to automobiles (even shitty ones).
