Default Honda electircal problem...help pleeease!!!

Dear Friends....
I am having a major problem that I can't fix or figure out. I have an automatic transmission and my D4 slips out of place and goes into fail safe mode and I am not able to go over 50mph or I will be going 4000 rpm's. The transmission seems like it is being told to shift gears when I don't even shift it myself. When I am driving, it will shift on its own. Also, when I try to change gears and light up around D4 stays lit as I go into D3 or any other gear. This is shown right next to the speedometer. Someone told me that it could be a sensor problem, but I need to know specifics. Someone also mentioned TCU's but I don't know to go about fixing those. Can anyone help me please. I am told that if this problem stays in fail safe mode, then it will ruin my transmission. My car is a 1992 Honda Accord.

the shift solenoids in my 92 accord went out, and I had similar problems. I'm not sure what you mean by shifting it yourself, unless you're one of those people who think their auto is a stick and they sit there and shift through the gears? whatever. go to a REPUTABLE tranny shop and have them check the shift soleniods. Don't get screwed, seeing as how most tranny shops are worse than used car dealerships.
