...And they were extremely rude about it. I am disappointed in their salesmanship. I called CS to request a 'goodwill repair' for my premature failing automatic transmission. I explained to them my situation; struggling college student working at Starbucks, I also explained my goal of working for Honda...ANYTHING to get another tranny. They told me that there was never any extended warranty or recall on my Accord, and didn't give a second thought to it.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement trans for my CG3 within the hundreds of dollars, instead of thousands?

Please help guys, I feel like my Accord is slowly falling apart--I HATE this feeling because I've put so much heart into it.

Warn struts, warped rotors, and now a failing transmission. All this crap came at once and I cant repair any of them right now. However, the tranny is first priority for now.

Just get another gearbox from a donor car, forget rebuilding the box, you need special tools and experience to make a decent job of it.

Just get a couple of mate to help you out over the weekend.

Seriously, your best bet is finding another trans in good condition. You just gotta start searching, and I wish you good luck on that!

Goodwill consideration is usually handled on a regional basis. One district rep will say no where another will say yes. If you had a V6 which are known to have some issues, I would say you should have been able to expect SOMETHING, assuming you were nice.

Try to keep in mind that Honda actually has a good warranty on their product. 102,000 miles is almost 4 trips around the planet. That's pretty far. I really don't see too many transmissions of your model/year/4 cylinder fail. I would entertain the advice of the others and find a "known good" ( if you can trust that ) transmission and have it installed.

I wish I could offer something better. Your year car in a 4 cylinder is actually a great run for Honda. It would be worth it to have it repaired, personally speaking.

The extended warranty program was offered to original owners of record of 2000 and 2001 Accords and Odysseys only.
Any other considerations were considered on a goodwill basis with each case considered on it's own individual merits.
They will look at warranty history, First / second owner status, any /all maintenance receipts and any other Honda purchases. The vehicle owner has to prove that all recommended maintaince and dealer scheduled inspections were performed as prescribed in the Honda Owners Manual. This could be proven by either the owner's copies of a dealer's service repair orders or reciepts from an independent shop.
If you've never graced a Honda dealership for service, have no proof of required maintenance receipts; and show up demanding consideration then expect to be shown the door.
Honda is very quick to consider requests when a person exhibits brand loyalty, and is just as quick to deny when there is none.

This is absolutely true, I know it first hand.
Another factor has been the economy, I have seen things tighten considerably when it comes to goodwill warranty within the last year.

Did you call corporate, or ask the service manager to call? You may not get full coverage, but they may offer some assistance.

-tools fromes lowes (about 40$ worth)
-a jack
-a couple of hours and beer
-maybe a haynes manual?



used tranny should run no higher than 400$ .. 100$ at minimum

I'm not talking about replacing a trans. That is easy. I'm talking about rebuilding a transmission. That requires a bit more. Meaning, knowledge. Tools are nothing without knowledge and intelligence.

Rebuilding a Honda automatic is not like rebuilding a Honda manual. They are different beasts. Easier in my opinion than many domestic transmissions but still, nick one o-ring and you're taking that thing apart again. Not to mention, what exactly are you fixing when rebuilding? Are you actually going to repair the trans by simply rebuilding it?

I am new here and my question is- my 90 honda accord ex (automatic transmission) rpm's stick when I am driving then it will shoot up and then when I speed up it does the same again.does this mean that my transmission is going out? If so how much is the average cost of replacing the transmission?

when i hit the gas the car goes. but the rpm's seem like they stick then it feels like it hits the gear and goes. keeps doing this faster i go. it is a automatic trans. does this mean trans is slipping? i am new to hondas messing up in the 4yrs i had this car this is the first problem

Ha, Honda Denied me a goodwill repair on my 1997 Accord Auto Transmission. My grandma owned the car before me and took good care of it. She took it to the dealership for all the oil chages, check ups & even had the trans fluid replaced twice. It had 58,000 on it when she gave it to me, the trans went out at 90,000 go figure. I was able to get a used auto tranny with "about"20,000 miles on it, it works flawlessly. I would like to rebuild my old trans in case my new one may decide to take a dump on me. When the trans was cold, it would not slip and would run through all the gears fine but as soon as it would heat up it would start to slip and cause my motor to rev. to about 7 grand and finally catch gear but toward the end when it got warmed up i had no gears with the exception of park. What tools and parts would I need to rebuild the beast? Hence if all else fails at any point, ill just swap in a 5 speed.

Wow that sucks man. Idk how my father did it but when my mother's 1998 accord ex auto trans failed, he called up Honda USA and they covered half the cost of a remanned auto transmission. Too bad they couldn't help you...

Here in phoenix a local shop was selling me the entire motor and trans(f22) for $150.

Just find another trans, it's going to be cheaper and faster.

hey if you need struts i have my factory ones ... you can have them they are just sitting in my shed ... i think i also have a pair of 4cyl rotors you can have too ... let me know
