1996 @ 340,000 miles, perfect. nothing is wrong but leaks into the spark plug well even after o ring seal is changed. oh well. still running strong.

My Honda now uses a quart every 600 miles. There is never any other signs of oil usage like smoke or leakage. That puzzles me some what as I would think there would be some sign as to where that oil is going? Anyone else see this?

Here's my sad story. My 95 lx has 359,000 miles. Around 240,000 my perfectly maintained engine had a ngk plug insulator nose crack off and fall into the chamber resulting in a deep score in my cylinder wall. The engine went from burning no oil to burning 1 quart every 800 miles. I have to change that one plug out about every 15,000 miles to keep a good spark. When I punch it down it puts out a smoke screen. I usually overfill it atleast a quart just to keep it running the safe zone.

My 94 accord has 240000 on it and does not burn or leak any oil. I change it everytime the service meter turns red.

99 4 cylinder with 130000 miles. Not high mileage, but I've been adding a quart /month for about 3 years. I don't know where the oil goes because it seems to burn clean. The oil pan gasket was changed at one point but that didn't fix it.

You might check the oil pressure switch and the spark plug tube seals.

my 2000 honda accord lx loses a little here and there. 141,xxx miles. i change the oil every 3000 miles and have to add a quart once between oil changes. i dont have any smoke tho so im not worried about it.

Re: High Mileage Accords, What mileage did you start burning oil?
hondas seem to have poor quality valve guides. I replace every one of them on every head gasket repair here due to excessive wear in many high mileage honda engines. (anything over 100,000 is considered high mileage in my shop-even hondas and really its just a break in milage for a honda).
if you dont have oil leaks but are losing oil between regular oil changes, you most likely are burning oil. If you have oil fouling spark plugs and are not overheating, valve guides could be the issue. a break down for an accurate diagnosis is required to varify, but its not cheap.
I have many honda owners as customers and all are different. some cars are 10 to 15 years old have 175,000 miles and are fine. others are 7 or 8 years old with 100,000 miles and are having issues.
the cars maintenance and repair history also plays a major role in this. regular oil changes at 4,000 miles average and quality oils help (lets not open the "this oil is better than that" debate in this thread please). also compliance with all regular scheduled services recommended by the manufacturer helps.
if you have junk yard parts on your car from you or previouse owners, then that could be the issue. I cannot tell you how many customers I have had leave my shop without a completed repair for a head gasket repair because I will not put a junk yard head on or use their old head bolts, but it happens often. I know sometimes you can get away with it, but when I have an unlimited mileage standard warranty backing up the entire repair, I cannot gamble on a cut-corner repair.
and of course you need to have honest, experienced, knowledgeable, and quality mechanics working on your vehicle. I have 2 customers I can think of right now with over 300,000 miles and they are in hondas. one is fine in the oil burning or loss issue due to a head gasket repair maybe 2 years ago now, and the other has a minor seapage of oil on the oil pan gasket and I have also believed for a few months now some oil burning as well. he is aware and plans on handling it in December when he has vacation and the car can get a major service. Trusting your mechanic's advice /recomendations and his ability to make the repairs or your own ability, knowledge, tools and equipment and skill will help keep your car issue free.
Just a side note--I heard Honda Motors recently gave a honda owner a free brand new car for having his car reach 1 million miles. dont now how much oil was burning or its condition but I thought it is right to add in this thread
