ok...so i know you are probably tired of me talking about headers, but i have more questions....

96 accord 2.2L vtec 5spd

i have been considering megan headers, which ive been told are a good brand...annd i need to know if ill need to buy extra parts, such as hardware, gaskets, whatever....and if the headers will mount at my cat....cuz i wanna stay legal lol...

my next question is, for my car, will i benefit from enough from a high flow cat and wider pipes al the way back to buy them?? i dont wanna drop hundreds and hundreds on 3hp lol.... help me out please...much appreciated

megan is crap, you will not benefit if you switch whole exhaust system, maybe 3hp like you said. Increase compression, install more aggressive cams, mess around with timing, and TUNE car. a 2.25" diameter exhaust from header back would be sufficient enough for upto 230-240hp.

you'll need to change out the flex pipe on the megan headers, other then that you may need to get them resurfaced if its warped. Might as well get a better brand.
IMO I say save up for a turbo forget these minor things. youll be happy you did.

If you insist on going the header route, there will be several things which will guide your selection.

Provision for the primary O2 sensor (C.A.R.B. Legal)
Primary tube diameter
Steel gauge (tube thickness)
Collector Diameter

The O2 provision = required for Engine Management and State Inspection proceedures.
Primary tube Diameter = Ability to evacuate spent exhaust gasses from individual cylinders. Many manufacturers use undersized tubes because they are easier to bend and route.
Steel Gauge = Thicker metel will not only resist corrosion longer but will also attenuate noise better. If you like your audio system, a cheap set of headers will be changed out pretty quick :-)
Collector Size = Most collectors are the most restrictive point in the whole system. For the sake of market share, most manufacturers use collectors which neck everything down to the OEM exhaust diameter. Putting a free-flow exhaust system on a restrictive exhaust header will gain nothing. It would be like having a 750 cfm Holley carb feeding thru a 390cfm restricter plate.....

Do your research first, and do it right the first time.

Wait. So, if u guys r saying a megan header isn't really that great, what header would be a good idea? Cause I was just checking it out for my 98 accord.....

I'm not doing anything much to make the car faster, I'm just tryng to make the car SOUND sexy....

I was thinking a sport (4-2-1) Megan or DC Header...
A Nice Injen Short Ram
And then end it off with a Remus Muffler....

Oh, and I Hi-Flow Cat wood b in the mix too.

OBX is crap. I've had personal experience w/ their header.

Megan is fine. I know many people who have and love their Megan header. When I get a header I will be going with Megan. The gains between Megan and an expensive brand such as DC Sports is not worth paying nearly $200 more for maybe an extra horsepower.

I have and LX, so it is a f22b2 non vtec. The exhaust ports between your engine and mine are different but I am pretty sure both headers don't have a flex pipe, though it would be nice.

I have had a header, went back to the stock manifold, and personally loved having a header. Soundwise, your intake will over power your header w/o a problem. I can't even hear my Apexi WS2 unless I am in a tunnel/bridge.

I vote go for it, just make sure ALL flanges are flat.

Same. Friend bought one of their ceramic coated ones and the o2 sensor bung was in the COMPLETELY wrong place. Other than that though it was fine as far as working. Rust started to form on the coating though, so yea... quality is definitely questionable.

Mixed stories on Megan racing stuff. I actually place them in the same bin as OBX, but they are usually better than OBX. Still can be hit or miss.

I would go DC if I were to go the N/A route, (I'd just turbo, but whatever, thats not the topic here) but I know people have trouble justifying a few hundred dollars for a header.

It's VTEC. Its an acronym, not a technical school.

Your intake will affect this the most as 19Accord97 pointed out. You will get most of your sound from it. Most important part of the intake is having a good filter and trying to keep away heatsoak.

Also, if you are going to do exhaust, get yourself a new midpipe (most exhaust shops can do it for fairly cheap. Its just new piping in between the cat(s) and the muffler). Change it to around 2.25" and you should get good flow and velocity for an N/A setup.

anyone know the O.D. of a 4-2-1 megan header? made for a 93 civic. the weld keeps breaking where it comes down to a single pipe. thinking of putting some flex there. I have a down strain issue

if u want power and have the money you need to check out bisimoto. f, h, and naturally aspirated is what they do
