Default Having trouble re-setting "maintenance required" light

Local tire store did 30K maintenance, oil change, etc. Now the "maintenance required light" won't reset using procedure outlined in the owner's manual. Vehicle is a 2001 Accord LX withe 4 cylinder engine. Using the specified procedure, light will go out but then comes back on immediately. Any suggestions/recommendations, etc. would be appreciated.

1. Push and hold the trip reset button
2. turn the ignition to on while holding the button still untill the light goes off.

It is set to come on at a predetermined mileage interval. 6-7,000 miles (more or less). It is only a reminder, to remind you to do the required maintenance on your car.

Push the recessed button in the gauge cluster with your key.
