Icon2 F23 crank oil inlet: o-ring or no o-ring

I'm rebuilding my F23 (2000 Accord), and I bought a gasket kit from Advanced Auto which had an o-ring that fit the groove on the back side of the oil pump. I installed the o-ring there and kept on going to the point where I'm about ready to dropped the block back into the car and install the head. I noticed later looking at the oil pump break down for the F23 that no o-ring was required. It looks like on earlier models this o-ring was required. I've searched and searched but haven't found anything conclusive. My questions are: Has anyone done the same thing? Could this cause a problem?

I never took oil pump of a F23 but my common sense says if there is a groove it the mating surface -it's for a reason (gasket seat).In my practice,I have never seen a groove in part that didn't require gasket.Plus there is either a "liquid gasket"(silicon) or hard gasket when mating the oil pump.

Here are the steps from Honda for reinstalling that oil pump cover:

Install the oil pump (A).

-1 Apply liquid gasket, part No. 08718-0001 or 08718-0003, evenly to the block mating surface of the oil pump and to the inner threads of the bolt holes.
-2 Grease the lips of the oil seals and apply oil to the new O-ring (B).
-3 Install a dowel pins (C), then align the inner rotor with the crankshaft and install the oil pump.
-4 Clean the excess grease off the crankshaft and balancer shaft and check the seals for distortion.
-4 NOTE: Do not install the parts if 5 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the old residue.

After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

Install the baffle plate (D).

--- In other words - its gonna be a liquid gasket used there.

Thanks for all the replies. The breakdown shown above is for my 2000 Accord and you're right...it doesn't show the o-ring. #32 shown here on the 90 Accord break down shows the o-ring and this generic pic for an Accord oil pump shows the small o-ring installed.

I gather from what you guys are saying that Honda didn't install an o-ring on my 2000 Accord but liquid gasket goes there. My logic told me that the o-ring in my hand from the Felpro kit should go there so I used liquid gasket exactly as the above instructions said, but then I also installed the o-ring. I was trying to decide if there was a reason to rip the block back apart to remove it, but now after this discussion, I'm thinking that I'm stressing for no reason.

Oh, an exb, that B O-ring they're talking about is #10 (in 90AccordSi exploded picture) is the exploded view of the oil pump picture.

And those screws (you can see them in 90AccordSi picture of the pump) holding the cover plate over the inner and outer rotor of the pump are a pain in the ***! to get out! Still trying to get them out tonight.

You will need an impact screw driver to get them out(at least to get them out without stripping them).you will have to secure the pump in the soft jaw vise.
