F22B2 to F22B Distributor problems HELP!
First, I searched all over and am finding conflicting info, so this is why I'm asking.
I have a 94 Accord LX with an F22B2 that died, so I buy a JDM F22B. The mechanic gets it in and it won't start, it's not getting any spark. So I search around. The F22B2 distributor has an external coil, the F22B has an internal coil. I found one post that says all I have to do is, use the F22B distributor (internal coil), and modify the plug that went to the stock coil, by splicing the yellow and yellow/black wires together. This way I can use the distributor that came with it.
First of all, do I even have that right? You splice the wires on the new dist?
Second, if I'm using the F22B distributor, with an internal coil, why would it have a plug that went to the external coil? Does it plug into nothing? I really don't know much about how the electrical system works.
Has anyone done this same swap? I've read other posts that say to use a H23A distributor, or to use a cap from a 99 Civic SI, and a coil from a 98 GSR, why would I do those if all I have to do is splice 2 wires.

Anyone!? I'm getting pretty sick of riding my bike to work.
Can I use the old distributor if I take the distributor coil off the old engine? The mechanic said he put the old distributor on, so I know it bolts on to the engine just fine, I wonder if he didn't get the distributor coil with it.

just get a usdm h23 dizzy and use your old motors external coil but also make sure you have h23 wires too cause you need the fifth wire to run to the coil.

If you still have your plug and coil wires from the F22B2 they should work instead of buying new ones. Unless you want to get new ones then get by all means pick up a set of H23 wires.

So if the H23 dizzy is external coil, what's the difference between that and the F22B2 dizzy? Why won't the F22B2 distributor work if it's also external coil?

In theory it would work. The physical problem being that the SOHC dist. mounting bracket doesn't line up to the DOHC head bolt holes.

Well, the engine I got is a sohc non vtec, the same as my F22B2, so then I should have no problem right? I could use the old dist, and ignition coil?

Yes you can.
The JDM SOHC Non-VTEC F22B is the same as the USDM F22B2. You can swap everything over from your old engine to the new one. It's a direct swap and there is nothing that needs to be replaced. I assumed that when you talked about a JDM F22B swap you were referring to a DOHC Swap.

I wish it was the DOHC swap. Anyway, I talked to the mechanic this morning, and he is saying he swapped everything, the distributor and ignition coil off the old engine, and still no spark. I know the distributor off the old engine is good cause it was working a week ago on the old engine, so I don't know what it could be.
Any other suggestions would be great.

Does your mechanic have the ground wire diagram for your Accord?
Get him to double check all of the ground wires. And that they are connected and clean of oxidation, rust and dirt/grease. The Engine and ECU grounds are a good place to start trouble shooting a no spark situation after a swap. Specially when your talking about ignition parts that you know were working before they went into the shop.

He checked, there's voltage to the distributor, but no spark. The engine cranks so the starter is getting voltage.
Anyway, so you're saying that most likely it's a ground connection or some other connection that's not good?
It's getting voltage across the ignition coil, so is there anywhere in particular to check first? Thanks for all your help.

No particular grounds to check take a look at all of them. Has your mechanic tested the ICM (Ignition control Module) in the distributor?
Just out of curiosity, What did your original F22B2 "die" from?

I don't know if he checked the ICM, I'll find out about that. What exactly should he check on that?
Original died from broken timing belt. Bent valves and such. $1400 for a head job, or $1500 for new engine, so I got a new engine.

kinda off topic but I wouldn't let that mechanic work on my car if I had to do all the leg work to find out why the car won't start.) You should be able to use all of your original distributor coil and engine harness. be sure all the grounds have good connection.

this might sound like a dumb question but does the check engine light come on for 2 seconds and turn off....you should be able to hear the main relay come on when the key is turned on and click off the same time the check engine light is off ,the reason I ask is it sounds like the mechanic is a noob and most likely forgot somthing like ground wire to the thermostat housing .....

I've never put an engine in before so I figured it would probably take me alot longer than somone else who had done it, so when I got the engine I thought I would have someone put it in for me since I'm working alot lately, and I could use the extra money to pay for it. Anyway, turns out that was a bad idea. This kid says he's done probably 20 or so of these before. So I don't really even know what to say about this mechanic, I think that says it all.
So anyway, it's most likely a bad electrical connection somewhere?

well i just finish my swap and all i did is to switch the f22b2 distribuitor to the f22b using my external coil and the f22b2 wire harness and problem solved !!

ok ive got a 96 honda accord which had the f22b2 motor and i put in a f22b motor the engine turns over fires for a second and dies what should i look for and do to fix this problem i changed the oil pump houseing because of the crank sensor i also changed the cam thinking timing was different and still same problem please help me ive never done this engine swap before and its killing me lol thanks mdixon

I have a 97 accord with a f22b2 and I was thinking about swapping it witb a f22b but im getting mixed reviews on it being yhe cheapest engine swap. I have a budget of 2500. Any help will be appreciated

when i did my swap it was very simple i have an accord lx 94 its an obd1 the f22b was a 97 came with an obd2 distributor and obd2 wire harness so i swap my old obd1 distributor and obd1 wire harness and run perfect now im not an expert but i think your car its an obd2 so distributor with inside coil (obd2) and obd2 wire harness should be used in this application and you do not need to modify anything and it should run perfect

, okay check it out I had but a 1996 Honda Accord single overhead cam non VTEC four-cylinder and and been driving that around at the truck cuz I had cut into a truck to pick up scrap. And then needed a more family safe car so I bought another one but this one was a 1995 Honda Accord that wasn't running so I was like the guy said it wasn't getting spark I didn't really test to see if it was I took out the spark plugs and one was bridged the other ones look disgusting so I know they ran the car hot ( no water/ oil )that overheated it the figure the head gasket or something was messed up
Well I figured I can swap everything from the 96 to the 95 I didn't have a engine lift songs like boiled swap the heads get new bolts let gasket stick it on the distributor didn't end up with that harness and I took apart the distributor cuz I remember the gentleman telling me no spark cuz he had just got a new coil and it was doing the same thing received some exposed wire inside the distributor like it at melted the connection or something so I was like me maybe that could be it
