Icon2 Engine swap planning

I have a 95' Honda Accord EX and have been looking into budgeting for an engine swap. I was reccomended towards the H22. My buddy just got rid of his 08 tibueron which I was faster than with my car stock, but he just got a 4.0L V6 07 Mustang. I'm sure all you honda tuner fans understand my pain when he gets ahead of me in his "Toolmobile" haha. Can I get the speed I'm looking for in a 4 cylinder without spending a ridiculous amount of money and go with additional upgrades (intake, headers, exhaust, high-flow catalytic converter, w.e.)?? Or do I need to go for a 6 cylinder?

Also, aside from the obvious (engine and parts for the rebuild), what are some major parts I'll need to make the swap happen?

I'm 17, which is probably painfully clear, so don't be mad if I'm asking dumb questions lol

I have experienced friends and my dad has done an engine rebuild on his Firebird from way back in his day so I wont be doing this on my own with no knowledge or assistance, but your advice from experience with hondas or tuners and stuff would be greatly appreciated!

i/h/e?? im sorry, still new to the lingo lol.

That's good though, I don't want a v6, I like the feel of being lighter, its better for handling on the street too. I just have a feeling I can't beat him with what I have now. I dont get the power in the low rpms in second gear when I really need it. I was looking to order a short ram this week to see if that helps at all.

You need to save up money and do it right.

I think I spend ~4-5k for the motor, he maintenance parts and labor for my H22A in my Accord.

That's not including the work I put into it with the brakes, ecu, sway, suspension, etc.

ok that sounds good. I've been looking around, and can't seem to find a straight answer... I have a 95' Accord EX, should I swap for an H22 or an H22A?? and since I'm asking, which year prelude would I need to grab it from??

Thanks for the advice so far!!

Thats convenient because you can't swap a V6 into a 4cylinder chassis without major modifications. Engine mounts are different and the V6 chassis has a larger engine bay.

H22 is an engine, the A is a designation. Vtec preludes came with the H22A1, and the H22A4. Avoid the A4 like the plague. They have the ATTS (Automatic Torque, Transfer System) which is headaches. Replaces the intermediate shaft.

The H22A is the version of the engine that was installed in the JDM preludes, it has a slightly more aggressive ECU and compression ratio, and you get a few more ponies out of them.

As for what year, get one out of a 95 or earlier prelude, as it will be the simplest swap, as it utilizes the same OBDI onboard diagnostics that your car uses.

Not all H22A4 comes with ATTS; only Type SH model Preludes do. Even the JDM H22A Type S have them as well.

My JDM H22A CD5 Accord eats V6 all day. I haven't tried any V8s yet.

yeah thats what i figured lol, I looked at a picture of the v6 layout next to the I4 and there's definitely a visible difference. Thanks also for clearing that up for me in laymans terms haha.
