Default engine RPM's @ 60mph/does 2600 sound right

hello everyone,
I just got my 1993 Accord wagon back on the road. It has 60k original miles. It has a 4cyl and the automatic transmission.

My question concerns the engine RPM's when cruising @ 60 mph.
It runs @ ~2600 rpms @ 60 mph and that seems a little high to me???

I can count each of the 4 gear shifts when I put it in "D4" and I can see the RPM's jump up if I pull it down into "D3".

The car is completely a stocker with stock tire size too.

The only thing I cannot verify is that if this car has a "lock-up" style torque converter and if so is it working.
I have tried lightly tapping on the brake @ 60 mph and the rpms did NOT change??

I am averaging aout 22-25 mpg in combined driving so it "seems" like its working correctly.
OK any help appreciated

Thanks,
Edward

I also thought the RPM sounded high on my '90 with the same setup. I would say it is correct. I have 3K at 70mph.

thanks again for the input everyone. I clocked it again today with some combined driving/hardly ay idle time and it got 25 mpg.

My previous automotive project was drag racing my Lightning. My new project now will be to see how I can improve the gas mileage with all of the little "efficiency" tips we all have learned. I am hoping to get it to 28-29 mpg in tip top running condition

thanks for the replies everyone. Well as I drive the car more the gas mileage seems to be around 20 mpg. I really don't think this is right b/c I drive the car real easy and my max speed is only 60 mph and I am NOT sitting in stop and go traffic.
The 2600 rpm seems high for 4th gear with a lock up style torque converter???

Can anyone else with a completly stock 93 automatic Accord please verify the engine rpm @ 60 mph, in 4th gear, with the converter locked?

Thanks all,
Edward

My '95 accord is tach'ing around 3K at 70mph....seems kinda high to me too, but have been told that it is normal.

My mileage is also around low 20s... I want my MPGs!

OK I pulled the lock up solenoid(the one that is closest to the radiator and mounted vertically). It meters ~33 ohms of resistance and it has no debris clogging the screens.
I think the only thing I can check now is that the solenoid is getting the signal to lock-up. If it is then I would think the converter itself is bad??

Ok, so I have a question. I have a 1990 Accord with 170,000 miles on it and this morning on my way to work I was going about 75 and the rpms went up to 3.5K and then all the sudden dropped down to 2k and the car sputtered and jumped (this happened about 4 times). I had about an 8th of a tank in the car at the time, so I got gas put in oil and it seemed fine after that. I was going 70 for about 10 min after that and nothing.

Any insight would be great. Im pretty knowledgable about cars for being a woman lol.... Thanks

Do as much searching as you can on the forum then if you cant find your answer start a new thread as not to hijack this one.

I am really sorry... I am totally lost and freaking out just a little over here! It was a RPM issue, so I figured this was a good thread, but wow nevermind! My bad...
