DIY Dual Alternator

DIY Dual Alternator
Has anyone ever put a second alternator into their Accord? My plan is to get rid of my A/C Compressor (since my A/C doesn't work anyway, and sections of my A/C lines are punctured) and install a high output alternator in its place, which would be wired straight to the battery in my trunk, which would power my stereo system. My issue is not how to mount a 2nd alternator, but simply how I would wire it. The stock alternator has the output wire which is simply a ring terminal (not hard to do for the high output). The issue that I have is what to do about the large plug that comes out of the Main Wiring harness and plugs into the Alt. What do I do about that on my 2nd Alt.???

Re: DIY Dual Alternator
so you'll be running two independant systems right? one stand-alone for the sterio and the original for the rest of the car. As I understand things get complicated if you plan to run both on the same system. the alternators must be matched and even then you may need to run "isolators" or something like that. Anyway, just look over the diagram for the factory charging system and wire in what you need to have the new, independant system function.

if you're running a stand alone system just for the stereo you should be able to just hook up the power wire from your alternator to your batteries in the trunk and a ground for the battery and alternator that should not affect any other electrical system in the car and just charge your battery in the truck

Re: DIY Dual Alternator
I'm wanting to run two separate systems because in my car I have several different amps running many, MANY different kinds of speakers. Unless I can find like a 300 amp alternator to replace my stock one, I will have to worry about dimming lights and what-not, which I don't really want to have. I already have the battery and a second alt., I just wasn't sure how to wire it. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't I get a pulley the same size as that on the A/C Compressor so that I do not have to fiddle with getting an undersized belt?
