Common Accord defects
Since the list has been pretty stagnant lately, I thought I'd start a thread to list common Accord defects. List major to minor...

Re: Common Accord defects (DunReit)
Only OE parts I've had trouble with:
front engine mounts (on the sixth one now)
distributor bearing (replaced under recall)
Besides normal wear and tear, everything else is bulletproof... so far.
Aftermarket parts that have caused me pain:
ACT Extreme PP (blew itself and my clutch master cylinder up)
AEM cam gear (slipped on old motor)
DC Sports header (had 2 that both started internal rattling)
DC Sports front strut tower brace (I'm 99% sure it's bent)
Umm that's all that comes to mind right now.

Re: Common Accord defects (DunReit)
5th gen:
rust on rear wheelwells from trapped water
oil seal plug backing out (recall, fixable for free at dealer)
door lock actuators
windshields seem to crack easily (happens to 4th gens too)

Re: Common Accord defects (DunReit)
4G Accords were built in Japan, correct? When did they start making Accords in Ohio?
As far as stuff breaking -- well, after 292k very FEW parts have been replaced. But a few trouble spots (for 3rd gens, that I'm aware of, and I'm being picky here) are:
-Rusty rear fenders (suprise, suprise)
-Main Relay
-5th gear going out
-Seat belts in the doors on the coupes
-Slow power windows
-Keihin (sp?) carbs
-Auto tranny grinds when put into Park
-Motor mounts
-CV boots
-Leaky sunroof
That's all I can think of. Not all of this stuff applies to my car, just from stuff I've heard. And the rest really is pretty much bulletproof...lol!

9 times out of 10 it's caused by misuse of pads and/or rotors... it can be prevented and fixed easily, besides, they are regular wear items.

Dont forget the clutch slave cylinders. Also, if your car has hit a curb and needed the radius arm fixed, make sure that the right bolt was used. If not, it causes a vibration and makes the car wander a little bit. I found this out the hard way. It seems some people dont like replacing it with the correct bolt, only because it is slightly more difficult.

Re: Common Accord defects (Wont be beat)
Are we forgetting steering wheel vibration while braking at highway speeds?
other problems are gas smell in car...(oh wait...that's just my car...not all accords )
and also the SLOW ENGINES HONDA DECIDED TO GIVE THE ACCORD! (this is by far my biggest complaint)

Re: Common Accord defects (kazmans94cord)
I have the 5th gear upshift grind.
I can avoid it by double clutching, and holding the revs matched for an extra second or two before shifting, but its rather annoying. =\
And I have bad clutch chatter when its cold and starting up in the mornings.
The vibration while braking at highway speeds, occurs usually a few hundred miles after I've recently worked on the car and taken off the wheels. I simply retorque the lugs every few hundred miles to spec and the problem is gone. Check that first.
My window fell off the track once too, annoying to fix, had to take apart the door trim.
The sunroof makes some nasty noise when sliding back, i gotta check/grease it.
I have the rear suspension "CLUNK". Gonna try to get new strut mount bushings and washers this summer.
The armrest part on the door handle in my coupe cracked easily, rather cheap construction =|
Starter/ignition seems to have some issues sometimes... it chokes on startup sometimes.

Re: Common Accord defects (DunReit)
-a/c "sweats" causing it drip under the dash on the passenger side
-wind noise on highway is too loud
-weak engine, but easily replaced

Re: Common Accord defects (Sabastian)
Well, when I change out my axle and replace the Redline MTL again, hopefully the nasty grind will dissappear...

Re: Common Accord defects (DunReit)
I've heard this was a problem too, and it happened on mine.
ABS Modulator dying
I'd fix it, but it would cost me $1200. I just disabled my ABS system completely instead.
