coilovers?
okay, so i've been sitting on some sprint lowering springs since 1997. i feel like its time to upgrade to some adjustable coilovers and aftermarket shocks. any of you out there know what products are worth it out there? i mean, theres the full coilover set-up (tein, skunk, etc.) then there's the adjustable coilovers (megan racing, skunk, etc.). any suggestions on which ones out there are worth buying, won't crap out, and are best bang for the buck? thanks...

wtf do you mean by full coilover setup and adjustable coilover. i think you have you have your terminologys confused. full coilover is a set of dampers with threaded bodys and adjustable spring perch and usually feature adjustable dampening. sleeve-overs are just adjustable spring perches w/ springs.

well, i think you obviously understood what i meant....but all i want is a little help from those out there that can vouch for a quality suspension upgrade. thats all. sorry if i'm not hip to the terminology. been out the game since 97, and just barely getting back up in it.

Re: coilovers? (so_cal_4door)
what specifically are you looking to get out of from a coilover? track performance, street/track, comfort, etc.
we're going to need more details to help point you in the right direction.

Re: coilovers? (pos_cd5)
i'm looking for comfort first. the ride's gotta be smooth. my accord is daily driven so i'm looking for a coilover setup that can provide me with comfort on the streets. nothing too hardcore. so to make this a lil easier, lets say i chose some "sleeve-overs". which brand out there could i really trust to invest my money in? i've seen prices go from 29.99 on up to 399.99. how will i know the coilovers won't crap out on me? and let's say i chose this "sleeve-over" route. which shocks out there will give me the comfort and reliability i am looking for in a daily driven accord. mind you, i drive an automatic SE. nothing too crazy, and i'm not expecting to hit the drag strip or anything like that. Just a simple suspension upgrade that would be worth my investment.

Re: coilovers? (so_cal_4door)
since you donthave any track time in mind, and confort is a priority. why do you want coilovers? a good spring+damper combo would be perfect for you.
but if you MUST ahve coilovers, then tein basics would give you good ride quality, but they arent exactly cheap. but the quality is great, performance wise though not so much, too street oriented.

Yeah, I agree. Tein basics is the best set up for your dollar. Your looking to pay 650 to 700 shipped. That's a damn good price compared to what your getting. The basics have a good ride, but you not going to have a super soft luxury ride. When lowering your car, you can't have both...

If you want a sleeve over coil, Ground Control is the only option IMO. Paired with Koni yellows, you have alot of adjustment to work with, and a quality ride. GC also offers custom rates if you want something softer for the street.
If you want to go with fill coilovers, you only have a few options that are affordable, and will fit your needs. I love my omni powers, you can get a new set as low as $699.99 from a H-T sponsor. Tein basics are also a great choice. They are alot softer than my omni's, which may be what you want. Either way, you cant go wrong with a quality full coilover set up.

what are the rates for the g/c for the cd5? i think the tein basics rates are around 320f/280r which is pretty soft, i cant imagine g/c going much softer unless he goes with custom rates. and i doubt he'll need the adjustability of the konis, though they do ride real nice. my friend has a set on his 91 bmw w/ roughly 450f/575r rates and they ride pretty damn smooth even on full stiff.

but then he cant go play fast and furious with his homeboys!
to the OP: incase you didnt know yet, tein basics arent exactly cheap, MSRP is starting at $750 according to their website. you can save alot of money if you just went with a lowering spring such as tein s.tech, tanabe df210, eibach sportline, etc. and match it up with a good damper such as KYB GR-2, tokico HP+, etc.
coilovers arent really that cracked up to be if your not racing.

no idea. i doubt any big name coilover companys will have any though. you might have to get a damper and sleeves.

i doubt he needs the adjuatbility of the knois, lik ei said, he can save money by pikcing up non-adjustables such as tokico HP+, koni reds, or some other non-adjustable dampers, none really pop into my mind at the moment though.

I didint say he should get GC/Koni I was just pointing out the price. He said he wanted cheap. And people who "claim" to have this set up are telling him to get this.

o my bad. i didnt realise koni/g/c was so expensive, my friend bought his koni yellows in a group buy for just under 500 for a whoel set. i never looked at koni prices for anything else.

pos_cd5, i never said i wanted "cheap". it's not cool that youre putting words in my mouth. and "he wants to play fast and furious with his homeboys"? uncalled for man. I said i'm looking for a setup thats worth the money and won't crap out and has has the best bang for the buck. i never said cheap. thank you for "knowing it all" though. your info really helped me out.

Re: coilovers? (so_cal_4door)
people who say 'best bang for the buck' is generally looking for something cheap, not cheap as in quality wise, but cheap as in it wont hurt your wallet too much. and IMO any suspension nearing 1k for just lowering and confort is not alot of 'bang; for your 'buck'. and dont get all offended man, its the interweb.
