Hi I have a 96 accord ex and a while back (6 months or so) I received a letter from honda about an emissions recall or something. I took it in but they said my check engine light had to be on for them to look at it.

It was up until a week earlier before I knew about the recall. I had unplugged the battery to reset it.

Fast foward until now, I'm driving normal and the engine light comes on. A couple of hours later when its time to refuel i notice that the gas cap wasn't on very good.

Would a loose gas cap trigger the check engine light?

Does anyone have a link to the emissions letter.. so that I can bring it into the dealer.

Give Honda of America a call and ask them about the service recall.
They will tell you if you are qualify or not.

Also, if the dealer gives you the run around of the CEL requirement, ask to speak to the boss and tell them to take it with Honda of America because they send you here.

yes if your gas cap is loose then there is air escaping from the gas tank. it will cause your check engine sign to come on...did you check to see if the gas cap is correct to your model or is it damaged or are the threads are stripped and its not getting tight shut when you screw it back on. do you smell gas around the area where the gas cap is?
