Default catalytic converters

what's the worst that can happen to my 1999 accord ex 4cyl ,with 170000 miles, if I don't replace my catalytic converter. will the check engine light go out and stay out if it's replaced ?

You will lose powa, and start to get shitty gas mileage, not to mention it might foul up your o2 sensor by your cat not 100% sure on this but its not healthy for your car or the environment.

By not replacing your cat, yes you do emit more emissions due to a under effiecient cat. Unless, your cat is clogged and with 170k miles, you probably can't tell that your performance has gone down.

depends on how the car's been maintained (i.e. oil changes/spark plugs/air filters)

A catalyst bed coated by engine oil blowing by worn pistons isn't very efficient at "converting" pollutants into non-polluting compounds.

With a well-maintained engine, good long drives & south-west living (rust).....convertors can last indefinately. It's poor maint. that usually kill convertors.

Mine went out around 90k. I did convince a honda dealership to to cover the new converter, but not the labor. Another Honda Sixth generation problem because i know i well maintain my car at all times.

Do you really have 170k on your 99 4-cyl. accord? Does your engine vibrate at idle? Mine does at 115k. Have you replaced any motor mounts?
