Can Dragging A Block Of Ice Break Your Water Pump?

Can Dragging A Block Of Ice Break Your Water Pump?
There was a big block of ice that I went over the other day. It sort of caught on the undercarriage and dragged it for maybe 20 yards. The next day, when I went to get my car inspected, I was told my water pump was going bad because there was some coolant coming down. In the last year I've had the car, I practically never have to add coolant, so this leak seems very odd. Could the ice have done something to the water pump? Or would it have knocked something else that might cause a bit of coolant to leak?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not really no, the water pump is a good few inches above the TOP of the oil pan. If anything you could be leaking coolant out of the pipe that runs to the thermostat or one of your heater lines. Although this also would have nothing to do with the ice chunk. I was just modifying/removing some tubing that runs from your FITV to the IACV and then to that pipe, the hose I took off was really swelled. That's a possibility too.

Water pumps will weep just a tiny bit and that is arguably normal. It is when the weeps turn to drips off the engine that are concerning. This is from a Honda Service News dated MArch 1990.
Dont Cry Over Weeping Water Pumps
A little coolant leakage from the water pump weep holse doesn't necessarily mean the pump seal is shot. The weep hole is just doing its job of keeping coolant away from the water pump bearing. As long as there's no measurable coolant loss, the pump is still good
