Default Brake Lamp Warning Stays On

99 Accord v6 Coupe.

Couple of weeks ago I accidentally cracked the center part of my rear brake light assembly on the trunk. Didn't seem major but the brake lamp warning light popped on so I assumed the light wasn't working.

Went to junkyard got another assembly. Installed and tested, the brake lights work fine. But the brake lamp warning is still on.

How do I get the warning light to shut off? I'm don't want to do anything shifty like remove the bulb or fuse.

Thanks.

Hadn't thought about battery. Already tried fuse.

The fact that the 3rd brake light (high mount) is not wired to the failure sensor, means the light you replace probably has nothing to do with the issue.

Are you sure the bulbs (dual filament) in the out brake lights are good?

Well, they all come on. When you say 3rd brake light are you referring to the one in the window? The one I replaced is the one that's actually on the trunk. When the trunk is shut it's in betwen the left and right rear tail light.

I find it odd that the warning came on when I damaged the original part and just stays on. I'm tempted to hook the original part back up to see if it was fully functioning. I never even checked I just assumed I busted it and that's why the warning came on. Wasn't until I replaced it that I started to suspect something.

Third/high mount light is the one in the center of the car - in the back window or on the spoiler.

What happens when the headlights are on and you apply the brakes? Remember many of the brake light bulbs a dual element.

Ended up being dual filament issue with driver side brake light. I guess it was just coincidental with the damage to the trunk strip. And I swear I checked all the lights several times.

Either the warning lamp comes on when the filament is wearing down (and not all the way out) or I was just so fixatedon the center strip I ignored the driver brake light.

I got it fixed now thanks for the help.
