Best bang for 500.00?
I bet this gets asked about 100 times per day.
Looks like I'm starting a rebuild on my wife's 2.2 Accord, and I really hate to put the motor back together stone stock.
Got any suggestions on a few worthwhile mods while I've got things apart. Say 500 bucks worth.
I expect to use the stock block, rods, crank, pistons, and driveline, but I can get away with a couple of extras, 'cause the wife don't know **** about engines.

I was going to suggest Nitrous, but with your track record with Connecting Rods, I'm having second thoughts.
Unfortunately, that's about the only thing within your allocated budget that would actually do anything you could feel with a Dyno-Butt
If this is indeed "Her" car, you might put on the back burner the ideas of Cold Air Intakes and Cat-Back Exhausts; not only because of cost, but she won't be too happy about the elevated noise levels in the Passenger's Compartment.
Would she (and you) enjoy a car that handles much better? How about some suspension modifications; HD Sway Bars ect, Tire upgrades. Ask her if there were one thing she'd like improved on "Her" ride, what would it be??

Don't worry about the wife. I bought her a new car when this one broke. This car will be kept around as a family spare and for me to drive when I've got my camaro apart.
Don't tell my musclecar buddies, but I always liked driving this Honda, and am looking forward to fiddling with it.
I've got enough nitrous stuff laying around to squeeze the motor a bit, and might once she's got a few miles on her, but I don't want to build the motor around it, because this car will still be basically a beater.
What's the deal with the JDM motors on ebay. There's a 200 horse job on there now that's supposed to fit this car (I guess), for 1200 clams. I'm expecting to spend that on a basic rebuild.

You're looking at the H22a JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Swap. This is a dual overhead cam VTec 2.2l engine that has become the darling of Honda swaps. I'd suggest reading up as much as you can on it; because it's a close-to-direct bolt-in but requires the correct ecm and some wiring modifications to make it work. Do your reading b4 for you spend the money.
Another avenue is Turbo. Even a set-up limited to 8psi boost will get you close to the 200 from the H22, and you can use the F22 and your newly minted transmission as well. Just something to put on the table....

thiers the jdm f22b dohc engine to.Its a 160 hp stock you will need the jdm ecu as well.I really want one of these.it would be a good engine to turbo...the part that makes them so tempting to me is it's only $800 shipped to your front door.
Last week I was about to order one but we had some other bills come up unexpectedly. Now that I have a kid that all ways seems to happen..But the guy from this place http://www.japaneseengineimpor...1.htm qouted me $800 shipped and he would throw in a ecu for it.

I have seen a pic in Honda Tuning that HASport has fitted the K24 out of the TSX with the 6 speed tranny into a 5th gen accord. It was white. Now that's a swap!

Re: (Slats)
500 isn't whole lot once you really wanna start moding a car. seems as though you can never get enough bread to play with, lol. a short ram air intake is basically nothing when it comes to cost. supspension is not a bad start. that is where i started after my intake. i think i paid like 180 for my springs at the time and like 385 for my shocks. my car felt better suspension wise. i got a better fell for the road. good luck on finding a good header for 500 though. you can get "a" header for under 500 but a decent or or a good one will cost you a few more benjamin's.

Re: (flight50)
used nitrous kit: $250 (maybe less if you have certain peices already)
ebay cai: $50
test pipe/high flow cat: $50
5 bottles of nitrous: $150
$500 invested and you'll most likely run low-mid 15s all day
An H22 swap will not net you a much faster car (obviously, daily it will be much more fun to have the power always there though). If it's really just a beater to tinker with, I'd suggest saving your $$ and going with nitrous. Good luck

Re: (HandoEX)
nitrous is not constant power though. for a daily ride you want that power upon accerlation. not the push of a button. besides if this is a back up car no need to go to the bottle. constant ready to use power would be my target.
