Default Autozone vs. Advance Auto

Judging by everyone's opinions here, I'm coming to the conclusion that Autozone parts are junk and their employees don't know jack about cars. Is Advance Auto any better? Other than a small mom and pop autoparts store, Autozone and Advance are pretty much the only ones close to where I live.

This thread should really be in GDD...

In all honestly, they're the same. Both stores hire some idiots. Every now and then they hire someone who actually knows a thing or two.

In regards to their parts, what kind of part are you talking about? Because many parts are the same between the different stores.

Autozone is for pros who know about their cars. But the employee are noobs. They do have more things and more brands to choose from.

Advance Auto (Kragen; same) Noobs who ask pro employees. Sometimes $$$ are more.

I like Autozone better. They offer more things on the shelf.

The Autozone in my area is always busy, and you have to wait in line. Then when you finally get to the counter, they don't have the part I want in stock. The Advance is new in town, so not many people go there yet, so I don't have to wait in line. Advance has been good at having the parts I want too. Each town is probably different. Check both out, and decide which one you like better. They are pretty much the same parts either way. The O'Reilly in town is no good, and everyone seems to know it, because the parking lot is always empty. The NAPA store always seems to give you the wrong part, which is the worst.

well around here it is hard sometimes advanced has the part i need but autozone doesnt, but most of the time they have the same exact parts but autozone is b/t 5-20 dollars cheaper so i guess it all depends on who you live around if there is idiots that work there then yea they could give some bad advice, personally one of my buddies used to be a mechanic and messed up his back now works as manager at autozone, when i need help thats where i usually end up, but again depends on where you live i guess....

Advanced has better parts, not to mention the ***** to back their parts with a lifetime warranty, on stuff like starters and alternators? Can't be beat.

i like baxters and shucks. the autozone near my house hires ******* raicst old men and/or punk *** teenagers who give me attitude and no service at all. but the toher autozone about 15 miles away is coo. but i agree, autozone does have more selection then most other stores. but shucks has the price match gurantee. but baxter has real helpful staff and a hot chick that works the register, but their prices are a little bit more expensive, but they stock higher quality parts.

small stuff like chemicals and cleaners i prefer shucks. large parts i prefer baxter.

Well i work at Advance Auto Parts, and we have an Autozone right across the street and a NAPA down. Most people who come in refuse to go across the street because the Autozone employess are pretty useless with the exception of like 2 of them. However, i've worked with some idiots at Advance Auto. Having said that, i try to avoid buying parts from any of those places, including Advance. A lot of them are garbage, and its simply not worth the hassle. Genuine OE parts are the best by far, its just not always economical to buy them.

Advanced is my first choice. I like their tool rental policy. Buy the tool, use it, bring it back and get your money back. Their computers are more accurate with the part descriptions than Autozone's. As for NAPA, I will never ever ever go back there again.
To much money for the exact same parts, oh and they pissed me off too many times to mention.

I agree with you for Honda parts. I just go to Advance for my old Chevy truck parts. I figure they are just as good as GM oem parts are. My Honda never needs parts any way.

I work at autozone, and im the same way. Ill only buy stuff from work if im broke or if its gunna take a week or two to get somthing in, and i can get it the next day. When you pay less for parts your obviously gunna get somthing lower quality. If your gunna cry when your $75 dollar starter only lasted you 4 years and you gotta change it again, than go and drop 400 on a factory one that isnt rebuilt. Its always been and will always be you get what you pay for

I always go to advanced because i know a couple people that are in a car club down here and they give me 20% off the price, plus they know what they are talking about, autozone blows they hardly have what you need in stock there people are usually wash up has been's, that dont know about **** when it comes to imports and there is a couple of ricers that think there kool with there nos stickers on there car and the big *** park bench's, when there car is complety stock. my vote is for advanced they know what there talking about there not some old *** retards an there are no ricers just people that love to show off there cars and give excellent service.

I got a timing belt, tensioner and water pump from Autozone. (haven't installed them yet) The water pump I got is new. It was $10-15 more than their reman water pump, but came with a much better warrenty. Do you think I'll be ok installing these parts?

What kindof pissed me off about them is that they insisted Bosch plugs would be the best for my Accord. (98 LX V6) But after reading opinions on this board, I returned them and got NGK plugs from Advanced.

I wouldn't go to either. I would order parts from a DECENT retailer online.

An Advance employee argued with me for over ten minutes, and then refused to sell me an Optima battery, because he said it would not fit my car.

Needless to say, i will never return to that store.
