Icon2 is auto to manual swap worth it?!?!?

i want to swap my 97 4dr accord SE to manual but i hear manual swaps dont shift into gears right and have bunch of problems is it worth it to do and is it easy? or is it impossible and not worth doing? and what would all the parts be? and instructions? for my car? if its worth it? im trying to make up my mind to either sell it? or swap it in the near future...it has a new engine f22b2 sohc and a new transmission right now ... alot of things is replaced its like new has 116k on body even lower on engine ... so is it worth doing cuz ik the special edition accord only came in auto ,so idk if the other models manual swaps would work?!?!?
and if they would which models would be best LX DX or EX ?

Well if you allow Jimbo-BuckToof-Bob install it with a hack saw, bubble gum and tie wire, it will sift like crap. Installation of the correct components in a factory like manner will result in a properly shifting MT.
Is it worth it? Depends on what you are willing to do, can do, and want to do. If you cannot figure out how to change a tire, then no this is not a swap for you. All the parts, I cannot tell you, but in the STICKY a the top of the forum there are a few AT to MT swaps in the list. Review those, review them again, then use the search function and find out what others have done, use Majestic Hondas online parts database to verify any parts differences and take notes.

AFAIK all '94-'97 Accords use the same MT gear ratios, with the exception of the wagon which has a slightly lower FD of 4.22 vs the coupe/sedan 4.06.
You could use on of the various Prelude transmissions which have lower gears all around for faster acceleration but your cruising RPM will be higher than normal.

You already have invested into this car, do you want to invest more, or would you be better off locating a well kept MT Accord?

Do you have the resources, aptitude and attitude to take on such a swap?
Those are the questions you should be asking yourself.

Mad Mike offered some very good information as well as advice.

If its THAT important then sure do it, but you better look into the faqs and make darn sure you get EVERYTHING needed and know what exactly is involved.

My opinion- If your auto is working just fine, then leave it. Maybe do the swap if your current tranny goes down the drain.

there are numerous really helpful write ups on hondasociety where they only do accords. my friend recently did an auto to manual swap in his cd5 but it took a while to get the car functioning properly (due to a missing piece on the clutch pedal assembly) but as stated. is it worth the money and effort to you? i mean, i love driving my car because it is a standard but i also waited till i found a nice standard because i didn't want to have to swap

Here is my bit of honda wisdom. There are tens of thousands of accord/civic chassis from the era in question floating around. Many of them in poor shape yes, but still plenty available that only require minor body work and are in relatively good running condition.

If you want a manual transmission, and your car doesn't posess some odd intrinsic value then just trade it for a car with a stick and make life easy on yourself.

well, i did the swap and once i figured out the issue of my clutch, the car has shifted perfectly and smoothly as well. But thing about the 5th gen automatics, is that the transmission IMO is very strong, i took it out at 207k, and its currently being used in another 5th gen without problem (if yer wondering what happend to the other car's tranny, sometimes big rocks hate people). So dont feel bad rockin the auto, cause there's 6th gen's goin around without the same privilege of a good strong tranny.

For nearly the first 20 years since I had a driver's license I only drove manual transimmsion vehicles. But as automatics became better engineered for performance and reliability, along with the fact I am older and appreciate a good auto transmission, I am now on the side of being an "auto guy" with a focus on performance auto transmissions - which there are many ways to go.

Wen you see what used to be comonly referred to as a "slush box", I see convenience and performance... So my answer is keep the automatic.

This is good advice. A transmission swap can be done, but it's nothing to try if you've never really worked on cars. Since I learned stick a few years ago, I've had the most fun driving since I started learning at 15. I'll probably never own another automatic. So yes, in my opinion, it's worth it. But if you don't have experience with this sort of thing, selling it to someone who doesn't really care about having fun while driving and buying a manual might be your best bet.

If you can change a clutch then you can do a manual swap.

Thats essentially all you are doing besides drilling a hole or two.
