Anyone have Seafoam DESTROY your engine?
I have a daily driver Honda Accord with 160k of worry free miles on it. I throw some seafoam in the crankcase last week and drive about 500 miles, about to change the oil when.............
It spun a main bearing!! Nowhere on the can does it say to drain immediately after use. This car never even burned a quart between changes in ten years!! Please let me know if this happened to you.

RESPONSE TO "OWNED" -
I take great care of my car. Oil changes every 3,000 miles. Always clean oil coming out of the pan. Never burned any oil. Never a blown head gasket or anything major. The original clutch is still in there after 164,000 miles. The car was running fine. I wanted it in tip top shape. I never heard of "Sea Foam". I see it on the shelf at the auto parts store. Buy it. Use it per PER THE DIRECTIONS. I used maybe 6oz of the stuff. The car has about 1,000 miles left till the next oil change. A few hundred miles later I notice the noise. I know what a spun bearing sounds like. Change out black oil thats about a quart and a half low. The car acutally drives fine, little noise ~ 2,500 RPM but any day now...... I'm going to have to throw a JDM F22b1 in there.

Re: Anyone have Seafoam DESTROY your engine? (JBaccord)
I got owned?
Please read the directions on the can and on their website -
http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUpTechGas.htm
Treats 3 Critical Areas: Gas Tank, Fuel Systems, and Crankcase
When Added to Crankcase (Oil)
Frees sticky lifters and rings
Increases R.P.M.'s vacuum and compression
Cleans dirty parts
Removes moisture
Cleans PCV valve systems
One pint treats 10 quarts of oil (avg. 1 1/2 ounce per quart).
So, again -
DID THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE?

I would not even risk putting the car under a load. You might end up with a spun bearing

alright let me explain this
first off, there are a lot of dumb responses in here from some people that are supposed to be intelligent when it comes to hondas.
If the OP followed the instructions as he has indicated he did there is NO WAY you would dillute the oil enough to cause that problem.
I got a few questions for the OP
1. Has the car ever blown a head gasket and coolant ever got into the oil at some point?
2. was the car acting funnny when you decided to clean up the intake and fuel system? (wierd engine noises)
3. Was there any knocking in your engine?
Most likely the bearing would have failed regardless of adding the 6z of sea foam or not......

if i ever run it in my crankcase i drain the oil like immediately after a good 5-10min drive. im not no chemist but i think of seafoam as like a solvent, leaving it in the oil would thin out the oil and brake down its lubricating properties.

It says nothing about how long to leave it in there.... and since the instructions indicate to use every 2500-3K miles I am guess you do this every oil change?

I never said it dilluted the oil. I said it breaks down the oil. The same way gas would. If his oil was old to begin with it would break it down even more to the pont of no protection to the already strained engine.
I'll admit it's more ignorance on seafoam's part to tell anyone to add 100% petrolium to engine oil or any other lubricating system. (even though i still bet he added far too much).

Re: Anyone have Seafoam DESTROY your engine? (JBaccord)
so you did not follow the directions and you got a piece of carbon that more than likely lodged itself down by the rod bearing and poof.
seems logical to me, IMMEDIATELY after going for your "spirited drive" after the seafoam you change plugs, oil, filter, and it wouldnt hurt to drop the pan and really clean it out. seafoam is great stuff that has been around for more than decades. anyone who knocks it can't follow instructions or it was a fluke. i personally have used it in my cars for over 4 years now with zero ill effects. Just take care of your car.

Enough already, he stated that he did follow the directions. You would really read the entire thread before you reply.
As I stated before, The bearing would have failed it was a coinsidence.

Yea I do actually. drain the gas and clean it from the fuel pump acess. P_Adams actually gave me a great DIY for it. Really he went even further and steam cleaned his.
