anyone with a 94-97 accord do a quick test for me
Im chasing a problem with the DRL on my 96 accord. I need to get it working to pass a inspection here in Alberta. I'm thinking it might be connected with another issue im having with my ebrake switch. The switch on the ebake also turns off the DRL.
First, can anyone go out to their car and turn the ignition to 'on.' There should be a few different lights come on for a few seconds then go out, such as oil, batt, and the check engine light. Can you tell me if the ebrake light comes on and does a self check. Second, if your car has DRL do you have a DRL warning light on the dash, and when you pull your ebrake and your ebrake light comes on, does your DRL light illuminate also?
thanks
chad

yup....only us in canada have DRL's...daytime running lights
if your ebrake is pulled up...then you start the car....the drl light on ur dash will be on...and ur headlights will be off...
once you release your handbrake...the light should dissappear, and your headlights should turn on (the highbeams to be exact)
if your drl light stays on even though your handbrake is released...then you need to fix your DRL unit...it a very easy fix...
the link posted above is the link that has saved A LOT of us money, because it works....

I've already checked my DRL unit and done the solder trick, yet the light is still on which is why i've turned my focus to the ebrake switch. I've checked everything else, so this is all that there is left. I'm hoping that the switch might just be shorted out, giving the car a false sence that the ebrake is still on, which is why the DRL light is also on. Im going to try un hooking the switch and see what happens.
my ebrake light on the dash (!) isn't on and never comes on, which leads me to belive that switch is shorted out, or perhaps its just as simple as the bulb being burnt.
So you guys with the canadian model accords with DRL, when you start your car with the ebrake applied the DRL's are out, correct? When this happens does the light on the dash illuminate also along with the ebrake warning light?

If the ebrake light isn't on, then you have a problem there....
maybe:
burnt bulb...
faulty ebrake...
does the ebrake even work? if you pull it up...and try putting the car into motion...does it roll freely? or is there resistance?
yes...when i start the car (with the ebrake pulled up)...the DRL light and the ebrake light is on, on the dash....once i release the ebrake...both lights dissapear, and the headlights (high beams) turn on

yes the ebrake works fine, its only the bulb never comes on so Im thinking that may be connected to my DRL issue, only because everything else has checked out and is working fine. It could be as simple as the bulb being burnt out, or the switch could be shorted also and is making the car "think" the ebrake is always on, thus keeping the DRL light on too.
thanks for the help, im going to do some work on it tonight and i'll let you know what i find

alright, switch works fine, must just be a burnt out bulb on the dash.
which lights are souposed to be on anyways? I've seen some DRL's that even illuminate the front markers also. Is it just the high beams on the accord or what
