Default Amsoil on a high mileage Accord??SHOULD I?

I have a 94 Accord SOHC F22B, has 142K on it, it's my daily and i put quite some mileage on it. i was wondering if i switch to AMSOIL in the effort to save money on oil changes. do these cars react good or bad to it, since it is full synthetic oil and the mileage is high, will it help me or hurt me?

thanks

I was under the impression synthetic was about the same price wise?

If you fully switch over and change the filter at the same time it's not horrible.

Well it would be with the appropriate filter, it can run up to 15K on one oil change, that's 5 oil changes if you do 3K intervals.

180k miles on my engine, I did the full swap to AMSOIL 5w/30 @ 140k and no leak problems yet. I still do regular 3-4k oil changes though. The AMSOIL that I'm using starts to get a bit rank with over 4-5k miles.

Why would it leak, just curious to know. I recently changed to syntec blend and my car feels a lot better, I thought synthetic would give you better protection, especially if you have high mileage, is that wrong?

I got mobile1 in the engine and tranny of the car no leaks, car runs faster, and i get better MPG.

You can pick up M1 at walmart for $19 for 5 quarts my F22 only takes 4 quarts at most

well if ythe reasin you think ur gona save moeny ion oil changes is by doing them less ofthen then

even domestics last forver if you change the oil every 3K religiously, a dude at brake check was actually telling me how after he left some company they new manager thoug it would a god idea to use synthetic and change the oil on the delivery vans every 10K cuz it says it can go that long... FAILBOAT, lol they were replacing blown motors left and right haha half the fleet was expletiveed up lol

basic story

you can use mobil1 and wix filter, and change both every 3-5K and be fine

well i was thinking of using amsoil and running it to about 5K w/ wix filter, since im going to run it on my truck as well. be the truck isn't driven as much now. only has like 3K on it. mobil1 isn't a full syntetic anymore, it's class lower, so now amsoil, german castrol, and royal purple still maintain 100%, not too sure. m1 is good i ran it on my previous truck, i'll see what happens. Thanks

hrmm i never knew about mobil1 not being full synthetic anymore,
and on the WIX filter, if its good enough for domestic running at high rpm's in circles its good enough for me haha

anyways man, 5k is a a little bit much, look at your owners manual, seriously i didnt know my accord was supposed to go up to 7500 miles in between oil changes ( have a 6th gen) of course i dont drive much so the oil goes stale or whatver before i get anywhere near 5k haha

3-5k tops between changes, you won't be any more cheaper

The other highly omitted fact about oil change intervals is the dirt and junk in your oil. I would agree that oil is getting better and can go longer before the lubricants break down but dirt still gets in there and is just circulated for a longer period of time. The higher mileage cars in my experience tend to dirty the oil faster so I'd be reluctant to go over 5k on a synthetic. You'll have to do the math about how you'll come out economically. If you get an extra mile or two per gallon thats going to be a decent cost saving.

Since we are on this topic already, is there a special filter for synthetic?

Hey, like the other guy said about dirt and junk getting in the oil...what do you care about more, the oil lasting 15k maybe? or the dirt that acts like sand paper on the cylindar walls and pistons, not to mention all the other moving parts? I have also found with my experience that all Mobil oil sux compared to the syntec blend. I use 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer. I also add a can of 4 cyl engine restore to every oil change. Mobile filters however are better than many. I never go more than 4k before changing my oil. My car still runs like a kitten at over 180,000. Wouldnt be a bad idea to get a magnetic oil plug too (has a magnetic tip). This will help keep some of that microscope junk away from the moving parts. I just recently bought a snowmobile, changed the chaincase oil, and you wouldnt even believe how much junk slime was stuck to that magnet tip on the plug....

That junk slime may just be that, oil sludge. If it was fully metallic sludge the metal particles would have to be smaller than the micron rating of your oil filter. Very small and to form sludge that would be a lot of metal floating in your oil. By all means get one, just remember if you see a lot of metal on it you have bigger problems than dirty oil.

hey, there is no filter for the chain case oil on my snowmobile. and there are materials that will stick to a magnet other than metal. also, crap that gets in the oil might stick to the magnet before it even reaches an oil filter on a car...just my 2 cents...

OK, Then I guess the magnet would be worth it in the case of your snowmobile.....

What are the other materials that will stick to a magnet?

Did you know that the material that comprises over 70% (+-10%...lol) of a Honda engine will not stick to a magnet.
