Default 98 Accord Problem

I own a 98 Accord LX 2.3L VTEC. Recently I started running into this problem.
From a cold start, when i'm driving, I hear a click, the check engine light blinks on briefly, the throttle is killed(engine still running), and the transmission disengages. After a second, everything comes back. That will happen several times until the car warms up, then it runs fine. I started having this problem 6 days ago. Today it got worse, now it stalls, even when its in park, idleing. Yet once it warms up, there are no problems. I attempted to have the codes read from the computer, but it says there are no stored codes.
I'm not great with cars, I do have a general knowledge as to how they run, but i'm far from a tech. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

if you can hear a click try to find where it is coming from and see what you find. My guess is that it is a relay, maybe the main one?

You might want to check if the ignition switch recall has been done

I've been looking into that, talking to the original owner, and she says, she doesn't think she had that recall done. Figures, well i'll chase down that remedy for now, hopefully it'll solve my problem. I'll post when the verdict is in. Thanks for the heads up.

Of course, have the dealer (any dealer) see if any other recalls apply. They’ll be more than happy to look it up for you since they’d like the work.

Here’s the recall in question, hopefully it's the problem causing your car to stall:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Honda Accord Electrical System: Ignition:Switch

Recall Date:
May 16, 2002

Summary:
On certain sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and sport utility vehicles, electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started.

Consequence:
Worn contacts could cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. </TD></TR></TABLE>
And just a head’s up – if this is the recall, after you get the car back take a look at the cover over your steering column and make sure it is still in good shape. When I had this work done whoever had opened it up had done a horrible job, big pry marks where they had tried to pry up the cover with a screwdriver but didn’t, went down an inch and tried again, etc. Looked like somebody was trying to pop it up to hotwire it or something. The part was replaced for me after I pointed it out.

Oh, and if you ask about the "ignition switch recall", just be aware that there was another recall on some '98 and '99 Accords with automatic transmission that stops the key from being removed with the car not in "park" - just if they start asking about your automatic transmission they are thinking of the wrong recall.

Is this a safety recall or if this recall has been performed and nothing is wrong does that fufill Honda's obligation for the recall? I'm sure this was done last-last year in Feb of 04. My car is stalling at least twice a week now with all the symptoms of this recall (car stumbling and just stalling, blinking key light). I know some dealers say if they perform the recall than that satisfies their obligation but if it's a safety recall then they would always have to perform the repairs as many times as necessary.

Just a quick update, after stalling 4 or 5 times today, the CE light came on. So I headed on over to autozone, and the error code is: P1382: Ignition system or random misfire. So its looking good for the ignition switch. I'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow, to have the recall work done on it, pray for me . I'll post again after a road test.

Actually that code is for the Cylinder Position Sensor.
#1 check your spark plug wires for bad connections
#2 if that isn't the problem you need a new distributor (Honda brand NOT aftermarket!)

After further inspection into the error code, they told me it's referring to the camshaft position sensor. I'll run over the plugs and wires again, and hope I missed something. It's been about a year and a half since I replaced the plugs, wires, DC, and rotor. Unfortunetly, I think it was all after market equipment.

This is the final post on this problem. There is a reason why i'm not an automotive technician, and after this, you'll understand why. Needless to say...I missed something, one of the plug wires came off of the spark plug....duh. I'm not exactly sure how i missed that, but I dont think i'll ever bother anyone on this forum again. Appearently I do not meet the minimum IQ requirement to post here. I'd like to thank everyone who posted replies. I think i'll go ride my bike for awhile.
