Is a 97 vtec motor swappable to a 90 accord?
My 90 accord blew a head gasket and I have been looking at motors to replace mine. I have a 97 vtec I am looking at, what will I need to be able to swap it in? Thanks!!

90coupekami,
You would be better off if you could find a 94-95 OBD1 F22B1 VTEC vs the 96-97 OBD2 F22B1 VTEC engine.
If you can keep it OBD1 then it will not require as much work to do the swap. The engines drop in bolt for bolt. You can keep your 90 transmission and drive shafts as well.
You will need the P0A VTEC ECU, engine wire harness and the engine, intake manifold and exhaust manifold and down pipe. Your current intake and exhaust will not bolt up.

GREAT my tranny wont bolt up to a 97 vtec? I have the stock motor in the accord, believe it is a F22a1. the new motor has the exhaust and intake manifolds still bolted to it. Sorry I dont know a whole lot, I am still learning. I was told 90-97 accord motors would all work as long as you get the ecu

Good to see another "she" interested in doing work on their Accord.
Yes the 90 trans will work with the 97 engine. You will need more than jsut the ECU to do an OBD1 (90-95) to OBD2 (96+) swap.
Here is a link for an F22B1 swap into a CB (90-93 Accord); CB7Tuner.com
I haven't read through the complete swap so I can not vouch for how complete it is.

Re: Is a 97 vtec motor swappable to a 90 accord?
ive done this swap already and had some issues. still havent gotten it to start 4months in this BS!
ill let you know what you need though.
my specs:
92 ex
f22a6
PT6 ECU
Need:
94-95 obd1 f22b1 ecu
obd1 f22b1 dizzy (it has to be for that engine, vtec)
16 gauge wire
C clamps(optional)
you NEED the vtec dizzy, i guess has something to do with the signal it gets.
16 gauge wire is for the vtec wire up. swap pin A6 and A1. you can use the same engine harness from what ive been told many times, the map sensor should be on the firewall on the passenger side engine bay in that black box. Be prepared to do some wire extensions here not all the sensors reach, id take this time to clean up your engine bay maybe do a little wire tuck if you wanna get crazy and clean up the engine harness. for my down pipe i just cut it off right before the bolt up the welded some piping (2in) then welded it back and bolted it up. i also relocated my fuel pump to the driver side because the banjo nut was over there. there is a difference in models of this car, i found that the 91 has the right harness that matches up perfect, i just used my a6 harness. PM me if you have any questions i got you. that tutorial wasnt all that great at cb7tuner.
