96 honda accord egr problem
I have a 96 accord v6 2.7. Automatic. Got an error code for egr. Took it out cleaned it wit carb cleaner replaced gasket, worked fine for a day or so than got another error code for insufficient lift. Can anybody help? Do I have a vacuum leak?

What code was it?
12(OBD)/P1498(OBDII) EGR Valve Lift Sensor High Voltage
12(OBD)/P1491(OBDII) EGR Valve Lift Insufficient Detected
80(OBD)/P0401(OBDII) for insufficient flow?
A lift problem there is either a vacuum issue to the diaphragm of the valve, which would require checks of vacuum leaks and the EGR control solenoid. Or there is correct vacuum but the pintle valve shaft may be obstructed with carbon/soot, this can sometimes be fixed by simply opening the valve with your fingers and exercising the diaphragm/valve. You will feel if the valve is rough. There could also be a small leak in the diaphragm which may prevent full lift.
Insufficient flow would be related to the EGR ports being clogged.
High voltage would be a wiring issue that would need to be checked with a multimeter.
If you pulled a code via the Blue connector and just have the OBD code it may not be very detailed as code 12 could mean two things.
If you pulled it via a scanner with the OBDII port the code is much more detailed and will guide you better.

#5 & 6 are the EGR plate and gasket, remove the carbon/soot with various flat head screw drivers and vacuum.

More often than not the egr system just gets clogged with soot. The egr components themselves almost never go bad, less the egr valve getting clogged up with soot.
Just clean out the egr system as mike stated and you should be good to go. Just buy all new gaskets and don't try to reuse old gaskets. Just do it right the first time so you don't have to go back in.
