if they just replaced the tranny, its possible its low on tranny fluid. once your car has reached operating temps, turn it off. with the car off and in park check the fluid level, the dipstick is on battery side of the engine bay. Look down to the right of the battery and you should see a little dipstick, coming out of the transmission.

Most people will recommend you use honda only fluid. I personally used vavoline and had no problems.

The Honda shop manual lists misadjusted throttle position cable as a likely cause for hard shifts. Since this would have been re-installed after your transmission replacement, you should insist that it be adjusted correctly or do so yourself.

Basically, you adjust the cable such that transmission control lever (linked to throttle plate w/ throttle cable) begins to move simutaneously w/ the throttle plate. There is a detailed procedure in the Honda shop manual. There are a number of potential problems w/ installation that need to be checked.

good luck

check the current level and add some accordingly. 1 full qt will fill the level from the first line to the top line on the crosspattern(on the dip stick). you'll need a long cone funnel, unless you got madd pouring skillz.

also be sure to check the level with the car OFF in park. also the motor cant be cold, be sure its been on and thru the gears.

If you just had the tranny replaced you should NOT be low on fluid. I won't ask how much it wa$. Take it back....have them diagnose the harsh shifting too!!

I had this problem once on my auto, and it was because the cable that runs from the throttle rotor down into the tranny, was being "torqued" by (I believe my intake), causing it to be abnormally tight. Check that.
