Default 92 accord overdrive problem

1992 honda accord. 156k miles. fresh fluid change(3 actually). drives fine until i'm at highway speed (in D4) then it will shift down and up randomly quite harshly. also the dash indicator says i'm in D4 sometimes no watter what gear i am in. was thinking of replacing the TCU. please help.

I had a 92 accord that did the same thing, the car would down shift into 3rd and the d4 light would come on steady when malfunctioning. Mine was definitely the TCU. Replaced it and didn't have a problem with it from that point forward.

BTW do not buy the TCU from Honda, It will cost you approx. 550 from them.

okay. is the tcu the bigger of the 2 computers in the passenger floorboards, correct?

Wouldn't you check the codes first and see what they might be telling you before you just replace the TCU.

It would be funny to replace the TCU and get the same code because a solenoid was bad......my two cents.

its not throwing any codes. how would i check that anyway?

No codes, then I wonder why this is happening.

Jump the service connector and see if there are any TCU or ECU codes.
