91' Trans Problem Park & Neutral = 1st gear
Ok so I can't find anyone ever with a similar transmission problem on Hondatech or well anywhere really. I've done alot of searching.
1991 Honda accord LX auto that started out with the notorious flashing "S" when trans would go into safety mode, well the car 90% of the time was just around town car and didn't matter. And it didn't always do it so often it had all gears. Then had the brake light go out which doesn't let you get out of the brake lock so just put key in console to bypass, but it was very had to move the shift lever, like had to use both hands to move it but it would still get in all gears. So drove for a long time like this. Trans fluid was nice and clean red car has always been well cared for by my neighbors, But their mechanic said these problems meant a new trans so they just let it be.
Then one day the shift lever moves very easy and no matter if I have the car in park, neutral, drive, etc.. It is in first gear and will feels like it shifts to second but since I can't go past 30mph I'm thinking it doesnt, but thats it. So if I have it in park, it will be in first gear and shift to second and go no further. So finally coughed up the money for a new trans ECU which took care of the flashing "S" and safety mode. But now have the problem of now no matter where the gear selector is, it is in first gear and will only shift from first to second. So I thought it was the cable had broken, but the cable is fine and moves to different positions on the trans as I move the selector.
So anyone have an idea of what broke? Something inside the trans? The car is at a crossroads where its worth keeping if I can fix the problems relatively cheap, but it is a waste to just let the junkyard take it. Shift solenoids or something?
I am ready to give up, its such a shame its a dependabe daily driver.

dude a lot of people have this problem green (S) light is sport mode start of in 3 gear in it reads of codes. did you jump the blue plug 2 see the code? it sounds like you got anther bad trans ECU but i was reading a post that some guy just changed his Distributor in it fix everything. i have a 91 accord EX samething going on
