91 Accord LX with transmission problems
My 91 Accord LX's transmission has not been operating properly. When I start the car after being park for several hours or more, and put it in drive, the car accelerates like a go-cart would. To be more specific, it seem that the car is being dirven by a centifugal clutch. If I accelerate slowly, after about five or six seconds, I can feel the tranny "catch" and it would operate normally. Even from a complete stop, the symptoms would not appear, unless the car was off for a long period of time. About two weeks ago, my wife was driving the car, and it would shift. She took the car to a mechanic, and he charge my wife two cents (but she gave him $50 anyway) for a new fuse and the problem with the shifting went away.
Today, the shifting problem has returned. It seems to me that the car is stuck in second. When I place the car in D3 or D4, the car accelerates slowly, but does not shift. If I place the car in 2, I get the same result. I can place it in 1, but obviously I can only drive to about 15 mph. When I put it in D4, D3, or 2 I can drive it up to about 50 mph, and the RPM are at about 3k. Some more clues: the Sport mode light is illuminated. It is NOT blinking, but steady light. The light stays on regardless if the button is depressed or not. The spedometer works fine. Any ideas?

had a similar problem with my 90 accord. First disconnect you battery for about 30 min to reset your ecu+tcm. I would also replace your tranny fluid. I think the problem is the TCM. I would just manually shift your car if you have to drive it.

Pulled out the TCM, and found that you were exactly right. I did some more research and found some archived topics and a fellow by then name of cmrvi1 posted information about blown capacitor and resistor. I opend up the TCM and found the capicitor and the resistor, and replaced them. I connected the TCM, turned the key to just prior the starting position, and found that the "S" light was not lit. I even pressed the "S" button several times and the light worked perfectly. At this point I was ready to celebrate. Then as I sat in the driver in preparation to go on a test drive, I heard a pop. I got the feeling that it was one of the parts that I just replaced. I turned the car on, and just as I suspected, the "S" light was lit and steady, regardless of the button. I went on a test drive anyway, but there was no change in the symptoms.
When this happened before (and I think I might have mentioned this before), the mechanic told my wife that there was a blown fuse. Do you have any idea where this "transmission fuse" is, or what might cause the internals of the TCM to fry?
