5th gen license plate relocation
Hey Guys,
My car is getting painted and I want to move the front license plate from the middle to the drivers side turn signal, well right below that. What all do I need to mount it? I dont have my car and can't find any pics of it w/o the bumper off so I was hoping to get all the stuff before I get it back which will be later today. IL cops are super strict around my area about front license plates.
Thanks

Re: 5th gen license plate relocation
Google search "JDM License plate relocator" you can buy several different types online. Ebay has one for $20.00, or you can pay up to $50.00 at any "jdm" warehouse. I bought the ebay one several weeks back. I had to modify it slightly but it worked out great on my 6th gen. Its a really clean look, doesn't look like you just hacked your bumper.

Re: 5th gen license plate relocation
I made one for about $5 or so. I'll find the link & pics.
Here are some pictures of the brackets I made. It was raining all day so I didn't get a chance to fit them in. I'll figure out the plate fitment and everything as well. Trying to utilize the 2 bolts holding the lip on. More pics tomorrow if no rain.
THE 5 1/4" SHOULD BE 5 3/4"
Making sure there is enough metal to frame around the plate. I'll test fit and install tomorrow if no rain.
With plate
With holder
Rivets and rivet tool to hold metal together
Ok, I just put one crossbar at the bottom of the "arms". This thing is pretty solid as is and I thought any more would just be overkill and waste my time. I put 4 rivets in each side to connect the crossbar to the "arms". I took a screwdriver through the hole in the lip and pressed up to make a mark in the aluminum. I then drilled holes on those marks which would then let me utilize the holes from the lip and thus making this removable and not permanent. I don't plan on moving the plate, but I figure why make new holes when I can use ones that are already there. You can attach the license plate to the bracket before or after installing the bracket. Really makes no difference at all.
1. Remove your passenger side bumper lense.
2. Feel inside the hole with your hand, where the bumper connects to the lip. These are the 2 bolts you can see and feel through the hole.
3. Fit the plate holder through the bumper light hole and line up the holes in the metal with the holes in the bumper to connect the lip.
4. Place bolts through hole with washer above bracket, then under lip, and attach nut.
5. Tighten bolts firmly.
6. Re-install bumper lense.
7. Enjoy!
Here are some pictures of it with and without the plate. I did redrill one hole to make it closer to the bumper. This is prior to redrilling.
From under the car
No light
No plate
Finished

Re: 5th gen license plate relocation
Thanks. Got the idea from a guy on Gen5 and changed it a little. I drilled/made no extra holes. I used 2 holes on the bottom of the bumper where the lip mounts to. That way it's nothing permanent and no holes if you take it off. Doesn't interfere with turn signal either. I think I'm going to add some bolts to the bottom of it though. I'm thinking Gorilla Glue 2 nuts to the back of the plate frame and secure it from the back. If I do I'll add pictures as well.

Re: 5th gen license plate relocation
I bent it under and flattened it because I initially had it mounted flush in the center of the grille, I just need to dedicate a entire day to standing in line at the MVA and waiting for a new one.
