400$ to change a bearing?
Honda Accord EX-L 1999 80000 miles.
The dealer gave me a quote of 205$ for the front left hub that contains the bearing. Plus 1.5-2 hrs at 73$ and the rest, it comes to close to 400$CAD.
I am UPSET. Why is it so expensive? It is worse than my Audi was! Searching on internet, I have found that the bearing is available (K8000-87879) for les than 50$.
Anyone did change the bearing only? How much time? TIA.

if I'm not mistaken, the bearings are pressed into the wheel hub and take a damn long time to extract.
I'm surprised your bearings are going at 80k miles (or klicks?).
The "el-cheapo" way would be to grab a used rotor/hub assembly in good shape and throw that on. My gut tells me....~$40 US?

It's around $40-50 USD for a OEM bearing, and about $30 for a new hub (well thats the price for a 98-99 2.3 CL hub). You don't need a new hub though unless yours is damaged. I dont know how much that is in CAD. Labor is the bulk of it though, they charge for pressing the old bearing out and a new one in, or a new bearing into a new hub. You can do it yourself cheaper (and take the hub/bearing to get pressed in/out at a shop for a little bit), but it is some work.

Sounds about right - Acura wanted 250 for labor + parts to replace two broken wheel studs.... - OUCH!!!!
took it over to Fairfax Auto Parts here in NOVA and has it done for 35.00 + (2) 1.50 wheel studs....

Yep. Good question. I like to make business with people that I can trust. Plus they are open in evenings. For warranty time, I prefer to make some business there like oil changes.
Finally, I had another garage do the job. With taxes, it cost me 178$CAD (around 130$US). It is fair, IMO.
I called the Honda dealer service manager (not the advisor) to complain. He said he would investigate, but my confidence in them has taken an hit.
