2002 Accord Alarm / Remote Entry Problem
Hey guys,
My dad owns a 2002 accord (v6 A/T), and he is having a problem with his remote entry. I've never heard of something like this happening, and I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some insight on the problem.
This was his email to me;
He mentioned the hood switch possibly being the problem, but I have no idea what to look for personally.
He is an electrical engineer, so I'm pretty sure he's checked the grounds.
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

Also, a double push of the lock function used to sound the horn once. Further, the "security button" on the driver's door won't flash.
I also noticed that when I stop the car and open the door, the interior dome light does not come one, even though it is set to be door activated. It will come on manually and will also come on when I enter the car.
The problem is that the alarm is not arming. This is the same behavior as whrn a door or the trunk is open when you try to lock the car. The locks work but the lights and alarm don’t do anything.

No ideas? Could it be a door or trunk sensor that thinks something is still open?

The interior light also goes out. I checked all the door switches for proper operation. There is some difference in operation on the driver’s side. It used to be that the dome light would illuminate and stay on until the ignition was started, then it would go out. Likewise when exiting the car it would come on and then go out after a time delay. It doesn’t do that. It comes on when the door is unlocked, but when it is opened, it seems to start its dimming cycle and slowly goes out. Conversely, when exiting, the courtesy lights in the door come on, but the dome light does not. Something has changed. I, of course, checked the dome light switch position, it is set to door.
I did a visual on the hood latch. The switch is underneath and difficult to get to. I will need some more time to check this one with a meter.
I think the overriding symptom is that the alarm will not arm. I like the thought that something is “open” somewhere, preventing it from arming. This is similar behavior to when you leave the door or the trunk open and try to arm the alarm. The locks will set, but no horn or security light.
Cheers,
-Dave

Re: 2002 Accord Alarm / Remote Entry Problem
Hello,
On the dome light please make sure that dome light switch is set so that the light comes on when the door is opened. The switch has 3 positions (off, on and door)
Next check to see if the horn works (if the horn or relay is bad then the horn will not beep when you arm the alarm)
I assume that he has the factory security system? There should be a little red light next to the drivers side door lock button.
One way to test the alarm, is to roll down the drivers side window and then shut and lock the car(arming the alarm) wait about 2 mins and then reach into the car and try to open the drivers side door by the inner door handle(through the window) the alarm should go off.
If it does not check all fuses and relays that go with the system and then see if one of the switches (door, hood etc) are out of wack
Good luck
L

Re: 2002 Accord Alarm / Remote Entry Problem
Update:
1. Checked dome light switch, it is in the proper position.
2. Horn works (panic button works too)
3. Security light not coming on (head and tail lights do not blink, no horn)
Will do the “window down” test (did this by accident in the distant past and the alarm went off) will try again, but I don’t think the alarm is setting. We’ll see.
Will also check the relays, have not looked at them yet and still need to check the hood switch.

Re: 2002 Accord Alarm / Remote Entry Problem
The reason is because the system thinks that something is not closed properly. I had this problem with my cf hood when it would not lock in place. The alarm didn't turn on when i pressed the lock button. You should have your dad check the hood latch and the trunk latch to see if they are properly working and locking.

Have the question been solved? I am now having the same proble.
