Default 2002 Accord- ABS light accompanied by noise

Hey all,

I realise there are countless threads about abs lights, but I think this is unique because 1. The car is newer 2. It has a squeaky noise too

Details:
I just got a 2002 Accord EX coupe, and the ABS light came on (and has stayed on). The other thing is that is going on is a squeaky noise (imagine the squeak a mattress makes when you jump on it, or when a wheel on a shopping cart needs grease). The noise squeaks faster as the car's speed increases- and completely goes away the instant I press on the brake pedal.

The code that was pulled indicates the front-right abs sensor is malfunctioning, but I'm trying to get more information, since this is a newer car, and the sqeaky noise may have something to do with it? I just don'to see how an abs sensor can make a squeaky noise. Maybe its the pads wearing down to the warning level and that also triggered the ABS light?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Squeaky noise is likely the "scratcher" on the brake pad indicating the pad wear limit has been reached. Better get new pads before you damage the rotors, very expensive to replace.

I doubt the ABS has anything to do w/ the squeaking sound.

Sensor problems can be 1) bad sensor (check resistance w/ VOM, it should be 700-1100 ohms), 2) damaged wiring (short to ground or line/line short (VOM inspection), or 3) Dirty sprocket/dirty sensor (dirt on one or both can reduce signal output (clean sprocket w/ rag stuffed into sensor opening as you turn wheel and clean sensor).

good luck

Thanks for your response. Update:

Car is currently at the Honda Dealer. The code it threw was P1122 which I think is a speed sensor/ throttle position code. The ABS light is still on... the brake pads are almost new, and its still making the squeaky noise when the brakes are not applied.

One thing I forgot to mention, the transmission is schizophrenic sometimes (can't make up its mind and switches between 1st and 2nd when slowing down for a turn), causing a jerky motion.

I am beginning to think that these are all related. Here's my hypothesis:
If the Throttle position sensor is shot, it could cause erratic shifting and the ABS light to go on. The squeaky noise on the other hand, I have no clue about.

Am I completely off base? What do you guys think! Thanks!

Disc brakes will sometimes squeak/squeal despite best efforts. You can remove and make sure anti-squeal shims are in place w/ anti-squeal goo on the shims.

I can't help w/ the ABS code since my latest Accord manual is a 94. If you purchases a manual for your car, it should provide excellent guidance. My 94 manual is very complete w/ useful information for DIY'r.

I've never seen a bad TPS. It is often suspected but rarely confirmed as the problem. You can have badly adjusted throttle cable, which will cause shifting problems.

good luck

Thanks katyhonda. The engine light came on as well and it now looks like the dealership is replacing the catalytic converter. They also said that the bad cat could also cause the shifting/jerking problem i mentioned earlier.
