1990 Oil Pressure Switch
So I realize my 1990 Accord is burning about 2 quarts of oil every 1500 miles. So I go to buy oil at my local Advance Auto Parts and the kid working there tells me that he has heard that the oil pressure switch can make these cars burn alot of oil. It didnt make sense at first, but then I realized that maybe if the pressure is building up too high, then oil is going to be forced through the valve guides and up past the rings. So I go back later and buy a new switch for 8 dollars, it takes me about 2 hours, not having the right equipment and I had to take of the oil filter, I finaly get the new one in and pop the connector on and the end snaps. So back to it tomorow and hopefully get a new switch for free, because I'm pretty sure I didnt do anything to break it.
Anywyas you guys ever had experience with this?
Does my theory make sense?

The pressure switch I think you're talking about isn't going to effect the oil pressure. It simply lets you know if the pressure drops below a certain point.

So maybe this switch sends a message to the computer controlling the pressure?
And if that doesnt effect pressure, why am I burning so much oil? Granted it has 316,xxx miles on it, but an engine burning that much oil would run terrible. Where the hell does my oil go, and hows it getting there.

The ecu doesn't have any control over oil pressure. Not sure if the pressure switch goes to the ecu at all. I think it just goes straight to the indicator light in the cluster.
Are you burning the oil or leaking? Can you see smoke? Does it happen more when you just start up?

It usually blows out big clouds of blue smoke when I rev it to like 5k or 6k. This part is said to be a switch/sender so I figured it had two purposes.
Now, also I don'k know if this is normal, but when the oil cap is off, alot of air is blown out through that hole.
Adn what keeps from too much oil pressure building up?
