What do you want to do with the car afterwards? Daily driver? Track toy? Car show queen?

What's your budget?

The easiest engine to install is to replace what it's got with the same exact engine. No performance gain, except the gain that comes with a fresher, lower mileage engine. Real easy, though.

G23; not worth it.

Straight H22 and call it a day.

they say g23 have higher compression but l think thats after building and putting a good clean head on a old block isnt worth it. u have to rebuild bottomend to use that head so best bet is just the h22 swap

You can do the G23 N/A but as nus_dogg and accordmatt mentioned it doesn't tend to be worth it (over a straight H22) unless you really go for it like this owner did:

http://www.importtuner.com/tech/impp...dge/index.html

Where it really shines is with boost because you have the iron liners of the F23 (unlike the FRM liners in the H22 block that can make boosting a pain) and the higher flow of the H22 head. Obviously though, the budget for that can climb pretty high for most people.

I don't know what condition your F23 is in but you could go with some low boost and make pretty nice power for the money. Only thing you'll need for the trans is a beefier clutch.

Tends to be cheaper than a typical H22 swap as well.

Unfortunately you won't be able to BAR the h22 engine in your car in California unless it's '99 or newer.

The best place to get an H22 is hm motors online 'though. And they're pretty much right next to you.

Some words of advice, the way you ask that question tells me you may wanna spend a decent amount of time searching the site and learning before going head first into this.

Again, that is for your benefit. You'll be glad you did.

Hint for where to start: F series and H series trannies are basically interchangeable, but they have some important differences.
