Re: 1996 honda accord
It's definitely not difficult... with a vehicle lift and a engine hoist, and if you know what you're doing.
Find a local F23A1. It's basically the same swap, with more displacement, and usually the same amount of money. I had $500 into my F23A1 swap, total, including all the maintenance items. I run mine off a '96 EX ECU(I have a '97 LX) and everything works like factory. Big difference in power and mileage, the F23A1 being LOTS better on both accounts. Prior, I was running 16.3@83mph with about the same mods as now with the F23A1. With the F23A1, I'm still learning how/where to launch, but I've got it down to a 15.8@86mph, heatsoaked and hotlapped. There's easily another couple tenths and mph in it, just with a better launch. Highway mileage jumped from about 33 to 37, combined city/highway I get about 28mpg, and I drive my car HARD. The potential of the F23A1 is much greater than the F22B1 with factory pieces as well, due to the better designed intake manifold and slightly greater displacement/compression. There's really no reason to get a JDM F22 when the F23A1 is readily available here for cheap, and modern machining makes mileage a non-issue when regular maintenance is taken into consideration. See the link to my build thread below for some details.
