1996 Accord EX distributor help
My mothers car is throwing a code 8 so i have decided to just go ahead and change the distributor. My issue is that i have no idea what one it is. Is it the hitachi or the tec. And is the only difference between the two the fact that one is an internal coil and the other is not?
thanks.
thanks.

Re: 1996 Accord EX distributor help
Both Hitachi and TEC made distributors for the Accord EX (with internal coil). Hitachi was what was originally installed in the EX.
TEC was what was originally installed in the LX and DX (with external coil).
As long as you get a distributor for an EX (with internal coil), you are good to go.
Here is a thread with a similar question, which the poster answer himself after he installed it.

Re: 1996 Accord EX distributor help
The TDCsensor in a 1996 Accord is not in the distributor. It is located behind the crank pulley mounted to the oil pump housing along with the CKP sensor.
Here is a pic of the two sensors with the crank pulley removed.
TDC is the one on the left and the CKP is on the right.
