Greetings!

I inherited my mother's '94 Accord DX with slightly over 200K miles (most of which I accumulated myself). It runs ok and I have an expert mechanic who keeps it that way.

I was just wondering if there are any Honda technicians or other Accord experts out there who can offer me their opinions as to whether the latest model Accord is a superior model to my '94? I know that the '10 Accord uses 5 quarts of oil compared to the 4 that my car takes, but other than that I don't know how to compare the two in terms of build quality, overall reliability, etc. I have been considering the purchase of a new model but haven't decided either way.

Save your money for gas and fun times. That vintage Accord was one of Honda's best. You should expect a good 400,000miles - 500,000miles if you take care of it. Maybe more.

....almost to 360K on a 95 EX 4 door auto (and all original trans and engine). Actually going to replace TB, WP, ect in about 3~5K miles. Let everyone know when she hits 400K. Take care of it and it should return the favor.

80's and 90's Accords were built to last. Cars these days aren't built to last. That's how they keep the prices down.

I have a 92 accord with 350K+ and 2006 high-end accord (known as a Acura TL) with about 60K on it. The newer accords are quieter on the inside and ride a bit smoother (larger tires and more weight) - even new my 92 was not this quiet. Both are great cars, but I still drive my 92 most of the time at about 70/30. Seriously, the only thing that I hate about my 92 after having the TL is the road noise... but that is why you just put in a louder stereo.

In the last 10 years, I have $1510 dollar of receipts for repairs and maintenance and a $125 tow bill. That includes, pads & rotors, shoes & drums, new distributor, hoses, a few sensors and relays, oil, filters, tranny fluid, other wear stuff. This is about a hundy and a half per year. I do all of the work myself, but in 10 years, I might have 20 days of downtime, but I have 2 other cars that I can drive and never hurry up to fix it. These are good cars.
