1990 Honda Accord won't start when weather is hot....
Hello, my 1990 honda accord won't start when the weather is hot or the car runs for a while and then you try to start it again... It starts fine at night or when the weather is cool. What happens is that I turn the ignition and I wait for the check engine light to go off...meaning when the fuel pump whirls the check engine light goes off...but sometimes all that happens is that the car doesn't start and it acts like its not getting any gas. And the check engine light stays on the whole time. Until i finally turn the ignition enough times and the the fuel pump whirls and my car finally starts. I also hear these to clicks when I turn the ignition. And the car won't start...I've changed the following things in my car..and have had no results in solving this problem.
Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, Distributor, PGM-FI main relay, ignition switch.
If anyone has had this problem in the past I would really like to know what is wrong with my car....Thanks

well my car didn't start when the weather was hot<<<<<<<< it came out it was the main relay. i had to let the cabin be cooler in order for my car to start.
next time when u car don't start check the following things.
check if u get spark
check if fuel comes to the injectors.
but i think it might be a bad main relay.<<<since u car starts with no problems when the weather is cooler.

actually dude i just fixed my car. It was doing the same exact thing and i replaced the main relay and it was fine. Replace that and you should be good to go. I got on here and posted and they told me it was the main relay and it was.

happened to me too back in 2000. Main relay. Word to the wise; replace it yourself cause honda will rape you.

It sounds like your main relay is bad. Very common problems on early '90s Hondas.
If it gives you a hard start mainly after sitting in the hot sun, then the main relay is definately bad.
To verify, tap the main relay while cranking the engine when you have the no-start problem. If it starts, then simply replace the main relay.
It is located way up under the dash on the left hand side. It's a grey or black plastic box about 2" x 3" with about 6 wires going into the bottom ( if you have cruise control, then you'll need to remove the cruise control module in order to see the main relay. The cruise control module is the silver box about 5" x 5" located right under the left side of the dash).
Hope this helps.
