1990 honda accord losing power when it's hot
hey,
I was driving on the highway and everything was fine, but once I got off the highway I noticed poor acceleration on the city road. my honda is automatic. do you guys think it could be faulty heat censor sending wrong signal to main computer like I am running cold engine and it is over floating ? it is no problem while engine is cold..help please

well, I cleaned egr port, I did change o2 censor, sparks, spark plugs, ECU gives me one blink, code 1, I guess this is o2 censor, but I just changed it ! now, car drops check engine light after driving for 5 min. I let car warm up in my drive way and after driving 5 minutes check engine came back again. and still sometimes car acts like running short on gas or something no power..so I slightly tap on the gas pedal and it picks up the speed...poor gas mileage ..help

After replacing all those parts did it make any difference in your initial symptoms? Do you notice any mis-firing? Does the car have to be hot before it will act up?

it does not mis-firing and yes, engine does have to be hot. usually, car starts acting up when I get of the highway. when I drive 55 miles and more/ hr it is no problem and when I go back to city roads when( not all the time but here and there) car looses power. I am about to change gas filter and distributor cap and gas filter...

If you've tried an o2 sensor, cleaned the egr ports (there is more than one. The port under the egr valve and ports on the intake), another thing you can try is unhooking the catalytic converter from the exhaust and driving to see if that helps. I've only seen 3 honda vehicles with plugged converters but your symptoms are very similar to those of a plugged converter. Don't waste your time and change the distributor cap unless it's some crappy aftermarket piece and there is obvious reasons such as cracking. There are many more possibilities. I've personally never seen a honda with symptoms like yours caused by a restricted fuel filter, Honda fuel filters seem to be pretty forgiving. I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just saying I've never seen it. Is your "d4" or "s" light flashing when it's acting up? Do you have any stored transmission codes? Be sure your o2 sensor is of good quality and has a good connection. Definitely try unhooking the converter. Hopefully it's not too rusted up and won't be tough to take off. Let me know if I've helped you at all.

I have also had a similar problem to this. I have a 91 accord and when it gets hot between like 1700 and 2500 rpms it loses power intermittenly. It doesnt do it when its cold though. Did you ever figure out your problem?

Oh ok. Well i just bought a new denso o2 sensor but havnt put it in yet. I had codes 1 and 43 and i already replaced the distributer cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, changed the oil and filter, and put a valve cover gasket on it. But it was still losing power and now im gonna try the o2 sensor. But it had a new radiator put in it not that long before i bought it and then i had to put 2 radiator hoses on it. But that was a while ago over 6 months or so. Ive had the problem since i got the car

With a codes 1 and 43....you can do the testing for the inputs to the O2 or just replace it....reset the codes and go from there.
