Default 04 accord I4, head swap with the tsx

just recently purchased this car and dont konw too much about it. i search but there isnt much aftermarket and info on this 04 accord. but i have been reading that the block is the same as the TSX. so im wondering if the swap of the head's can be done, along with like new ecu. will i be able to run the 200hp and 166 torque the tsx is ?

I was talking with my dad about something similar because I have an 03 Accord with the same engine the difference is the TSX has a higher compression ratio which in his opinion means it has different pistons in it. I've yet to learn enough about how an engine works to tell you but he plays with his 68' Camaro a lot so its probably accurate.

pistons and also the compression chamber on the head could be different

okay well did the a little bit more studying on it, the accord has 9.7 : 1 CR, while the TSX has 10.5:1. that is quite a difference. displacement is both 2.4, both have a 16-valve, dohc, valvetrain. the difference probably is the pistons, plus the powerband is totally different.

someone want to tell me if im right

get TSX pistons and head and you have a TSX engine basically

as cool as that would be, my suggestion would be to sell the accord and buy the TSX if you want the engine simply for the sake of your warranty...theres a lot of stuff that could go wrong with what you would want to do, and it may even cause problems in the future that honda definitely wont pay for. just my .02

IMO look for a rsx types head . that is the most optimal setup . check out some of this years sport compact car mag , they have a write about that build up

Honda Tuning Magazine also had an article about this. Like stated above go for the RSX S head. It swaps on and flow really well.

I agree with propwdialogue, a trade would be wisest, unless you just have deep pockets and want to spread the wealth, and enjoy experimenting on new cars. If that was the case with me I'd just drop a hot V-6 in but to each his own. From the Car and Driver & Motor Trend tests I've seen, the Accord and TSX run about the same acceleration times with manual trans, 0-60 about 7.5, quarter I think high 15s around 90 (?), not motivated enough to go look. The TSX is cooler looking IMHO, but if you're after a sleeper this will not be an extraordinarily quick car. If you want a sleeper drop in a GP 3.8 supercharged. That will also allow you to get into a much more expensive proposition than just a trade in or engine mods.

Isn't the TSX engine drive by wire? I hear this is major hurdle to get over if swapping a head from that car.

one reason i bought this car was how much i got it for. i got it for less than invoice, and the tsx would be about 10K over what i got this car for.

now if i swap the rsx-s head to the accord, what ecu should i run? im sure its not gonna be the same? i think i should just wait till that fully programmable k-pro comes out, and than think work on it. basically, im doing something no one else has done yet

Ahh yes, tuning. And ECU issues. Yep, might want to wait until a fully programmable unit comes out. I didn't even think about that. As for drive by wire I have to say I haven't looked at it that much but that could present a problem now that I think about it.

Good luck.

I think you're going to a lot of trouble for something that won't be noticeably or even much quicker. More power to you if you just like exotic gear. But you could locate a junkyard supercharged GM 3.8 and do a complete engine/trans swap. When you're done you'll have a low-to-mid-15s low-to-mid 90s super sleeper that will have about 280 lb ft of torque before you even clean up the intake.
