Icon6 `02 Accord 1.8 vtec no power on low rpm

Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with my Accord F18B2 engine, below 3000 rpm it does not have power. It has passed all diagnostic tests, everything seems perfect, new spark plugs, complete service was made. I bought it a month ago, I don`t know anything about his past, but the car is in perfect shape the engine as well, and it (sometimes) goes like a rocket over 3000rpm, sometimes not as good and generally have no power at 1500-2500rpm. Today I tried to cut off the catalysator, I tought that was choking him, but it not helped. I`m having problem with a 30-40% higher fuel consumption too. I added injector cleaner (Wynn`s) to the fuel for a 600km but didn`t noticed any difference.
So if anyone knows where to look for the problem or what could be the issue (without cutting off parts from my car ) I would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Oscar

I have a '96 Accord EX 2.2 VTEC that behaves like this...(no power going uphill), but it is giving a p0172 CEL code which is too rich in bank 1....I changed the upstream(preCAT) O2 sensor, the spark plugs, the MAP sensor, ran a couple bottles of Lucas fuel system cleaner...and I made sure that my air filter was not dirty...I have read that the CEL could be on because of a bad fuel pressure regulator...should I try that or change the downstream O2 sensor...or WHAT?

I'd start with checking the timing belt to be sure it is not off a tooth or two.

It`s not like that, there is no power at all, the car doesn`t accelerate at all, I`m certain that`s something wrong. I had a 1.5i 16V civic before and I know that there is a big difference at low rpms but this isn`t the case with the accord. And one more thing, when the engine is cold, then it have much more power than hot, at low rpm, but in neither case doesn`t have enough. I drove one same accord and I know how should it be.
In my case the timing belt was checked, the spark plugs, tha cables, even the CEL doesn`t report any errors. And I have to say that sometimes it goes like hell, but that`s just for a short period of driving. For example I drive for 15 minutes, I stop the engine leave it for couple minutes than start again and make a fast start, then it goes as it should be, but after first slow down the performance is gone.

It is probably the MAP sensor what causes the problem, I done some studying and now I`m 99% sure! Its a stupid thing that probably doesnt cost more than 5$ to make but it costs over 130$ even 250$ (original japanese) in europe!

Search the internet for MAP enhancers, it`s a very-very interesting, useful and cheap thing! With the installed map enhancer you can save fuel or even get extra performance!
For example: http://www.hhodevelopment.com/support.htm

I finally found the cause of the problem, the EGR ports and the valve was clogged for about 60-80%. Enough for causing problems but not enough for the ECU to report an error. I clean it by myself and returned just now from test drive, now it goes like a bullet!
