[97 Accord] Drivers' Door won't open from inside
hi,
I bought a used Honda Accord. It is a '97 Sedan. The door won't open from the inside (only from the outside). Is that something I could easily fix myself?
thank you

you can move the handle and there is nothing unusual about it, except that the door doesn't open.
so, how do I remove the handle and go about taking off the door panel?
I do not have power windows or power locks.
thank you

the clip on the door handle may have broken or somehow fallen out? Pop the handle off and door panel and see what have may have been broken. Follow everything that is attached to the door handle.

Sounds like the door latch came apart inside. Do they like they said and take door panel apart to see. Should be an easy fix if this is the case. Had it happen to me before. The metal rod should snap into the handle mechanism.

Behind the door handle there is a screw with a round plugcovering it. remove that screw. do the same on the window handle. after that grip the botom of the door interior and tug straight away from the door frame. the interior should pop loose from several plastic clips. the top of this interior slides straight up along the window. the interior should be free from the door by this point. Inside the door frame there is a metal rod that conect the door handle to the door release mechanism. at the end that meets the door handle there is ussualy a plastic clip that is yellow or blue that is common to break. you can buy a new one or jimmy rig a quick fix to resucure the door handle to the rod. then rplace the interior pannel on the door and carefully replace the plastic clips into the matching holes by gently pressing until they pop into place. your door handle should work now.
(also under the door pannel there is some times a sheet of plastic glued to the metal door frame. You can rip it off if you want. It has virtualy no purpose except to keep a verry small amount of air from getting in the car from the outside. Ussually no one can tell the diference between it being there or not)
I have a 96 accord. Same body style. Is yours a v6 2.7L like mine?

Re: (awdgsx96)
you guys are great.
so, I removed the door handle and the plastic clip that connects to the metal rod is broken. Should buy a new door handle? And once I put it in, do I actually have to take off the door covers?
@ kildar
I just got the regular Accord. Lucky you
