rare - you should not be putting fuel of octane rating other than what is specified by the manufacturer, for your engine it's 87. Running higher octane will result in less power and higher emissions. Low octane is good, high octane is for high compression or heat applications.
Timmay - yea man, that's a terrible shame. I remember when you were building it. I would log on every day just to look, specially when you were doing the bay and LSV. miss it, sucks it got whored around .
Jay - oh yea that's right about the cops in SD, you right maybe we should creep around your hood.
Slowsohc - nice man!
Mornin fellers looking good in here!

updates for the familia :
got the motor, tranny, EVERYTHING AUTOMATIC out and cleaned up the engine bay, washed it up and got it ready for the next motor trans
just need to sand and touch up where the battery was, i guess it leaked acid and ate the paint
also worked on getting a few more parts and altered my new 96-98 vtec wiring harness, extended certain wires, cleaned it up and rewrapped it up neatly to have a clean install without wires hanging everywhere
oh and its going to the bodyshop today, gonna go get the crumpled part fixed and throw all my new parts on it and get all the bodywork done and have it prepped for paint... once that is done im bringing her back home and installing the swap and getting all bugs she might have worked out and then drive her back to the bodyshop to have her painted
now for the pics
the engine harness:
working on getting everything out complete...(thats antifreeze on the floor not oil lol)
taking the stock swap out...
swap out and cleaned up the floor
cleaned up the engine bay, crossmember, suspension and brakes from any grease or dirt
as she sits ready to go to get a facelift and prep work(note that i left all a/c components intact, didnt want to disconnet it to leak out into the ozone and since im gonna keep my a/c i didnt wanna have to go get it refilled lol

Di2 - that things gonna be so legit! Can't wait.
Sooo... I cracked my lip yesterday, I went and got an estimate for a respray and bodywork. Lookin kinda steep We'll see how this plays out.

Whats up guys, My name is Brandon, I currently have a 2006 Scion xB. Im tossing around the idea of selling and getting a 96-00 civic. The xB has been an awesome car, but i miss having a car and im kind of tired of this project.
Some amazing inspiration in this thread.
Anyway, heres my current whip, sorry off topic.

I needed up meeting with Jeremy...aka HondaGuy951. I swapped the dimmer switches out, and my switch killed his cluster as well. So I'll allocate a new switch.
cruise by anytime bro!
Understood. I simply have a habit of putting 91. That's usually the first number I press. I will heed your advice, and run lower octane.

Re: ** The offical 96-00 civic 4dr thread ** PART 2
87 is factory recommended for your car. Octane ratings are defined as the fuel's resistance to burn. this being said here is my take on fuel. in general most engines run just fine on 87 octane, i would also venture to say that most modern engines of 10.5:1 compression or lower are also just fine on 87 octane. higher octane fuels come into play when the engine produces enough heat within the combustion chamber to detonate and burn the fuel unintentionally, in addition to the the intentional ignition from the spark plugs. with this you than have the flame front created from a random point of ignition within the chamber, and the expected flame front created by the spark plug propagating towards each other. ultimately they collide and creates what is known as detonation. detonation is what breaks parts and can damage valves and seals. when engines produce this type of heat a higher octane rating is required so that the fuel can resist the spontaneous combustion and ignite as determined by the spark plug with only one even flame front pushing the piston back down the cylinder bore. the more heat you produce, the more octane you need. in general, all vtec engines are recommended as 91 octane simply because they high reving motors with higher compressions and wild cam design. these things warrant a higher octane, tho not always. now if your engine is designed for lower octanes, this usually means it has either very efficient combustion chamber design or relatively low compression ratios. if you were to run a higher octane than specified on these motors they would in fact have a harder time burning the fuel completely since the fuel is resisting the burn, and you will end up with less total burn of the fuel. This means more energy within the fuel escaping as both raw hydrocarbons and other wasteful energy like noise. lower octane burns easy, unless you have a problem with detonation or pinging there is no reason to run higher octane than 87.
