Default where to get a good cheap chopsaw??

bleh search server is down for me at work right now so I guess I have to ask

anyone know of any good cheap chopsaws that are portable??

I need 110v and something where I can easily pick up replacement cutters.

Are you guys using those cheap table saws from home depot and putting carbon cutters on them or using specific "chop saws" and cutters??

I'm wanting to be able to start cutting up pipe, etc.

also, what type of cutter would you use for aluminum on one of these things?? I've got a standard blade on my bandsaw and it eats through aluminum pretty good but it catches every now and then and I dont want this problem with a chop saw.

theres no such thing as good and cheap when coming to a chopsaw.

my 15a 14 milwaukee was 169 dollars and it rips thru pipe like a fat chick eats your leg.

we had a hf chop saw, and we roached the bearings in 3 days i think it was a 3a? model? hahahaha

There was a topic on this not too long ago. 15A and 14" wheel is pretty standard.
Please don't buy a miter saw and put a cutoff wheel on it, that's not safe, I've never heard of a dual purpose saw.

I've got a milwaukee, its a champ. (Just make sure your breakers are 20 amps or more, or they'll trip )

i have a harbor frieght. have had it a year now or so, done about 5 exhaust systems, and a few IC piping systems with it. havent had problems. my buddies car shop that uses chop saws everyday has gone through a couple of them though. but he uses them hours each day. so it depends on how much you use it.

Ive got a milwakee.

Excellent machine! Flawless for years. Im pretty sure you can get a fine tooth blade.. like something with like 100 teeth to cut alum. Just put it in the chop saw..

i just put a 6" composite disc on my bench grinder. made a shield and ill wear welding gloves and glasses each time i use it...not for any big projects. just so i dont have to pull out the 14" when i need a quick small cut.

hopefully ill be ok.

That's REALLY clever! Cut and grind on the same small setup.

and dangerous. ill just make sure to check the nut every once in awhile.

i had to stack like 10 washers up to make it thick enough...and it was crucuially out of balance until i got it to work on like the 10th try...

if anyone does this make sure you get the blade running pretty true while spinning it with your hand.

then when it gets up to speed itll stablize out some.

you also may need a 5/8" arbor to 1/2" aror adapter. just a little washer that they sell for the purpose.

i got my discs and adapter at HF, then the washers at Lowes

I have a nice 15A 14" DeWalt chopsaw, cost me about 200 bucks. It cuts through everything I can throw at it, and has yet to throw a breaker

i really love dewalt tools, but my 40$ HF one i can say the exact same thing about...

id try out the cheap one first because ill be the first to admit a lot of HF stuff is junk, but this saw seems to be built just fine...

so i couldnt justify getting one thats 5x as much

my milwaukee trips my 15a breaker every day. i really need to wire a bigger guage and a dedicated outlet for it. say that about your pussbag hf saw.

try cuttig a 6 inch collector with a hf saw. hahahhahaha

stainless steel is where you will find out what kind of ******* your saw is really packing

i have the harbor freight special.

It's a little lacking in the ***** department but it works. IF you dont make a habbit of cutting thick stainless you'll be fine.

why is it up for sale?? nothing wrong I take it?? if so then if you can give me a week or so, I'll probably take it off your hands. I'm going in the morning to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth out so I'll pretty much be on the pain wagon for the next week or so and tonight is "pre-dentist horrible pain for two weeks" sex night with the woman.

oh yeah, what's the model # on it so I can check specs if possible?

Im selling it because you need one and I dont.. I have used it for what I wanted and rescently bought a bandsaw that I will use in future instead of the chop saw. I may even have a spare blade around.

Ill get a number later for ya

I've noticed my HF-type chop saw (not sure where it came from) begins to cut at a slight angle when pressure is applied. The blade as well as the top portion twists quite a bit--the left side lower than the right obviously because of the handle placement.

The DeWalt saw I use at work does a really nice job on the other hand and definitely has more ***** compared to my home one.

If you, like me, are tripping the breaker try to make sure nothing else is on the same cirtuit. I had 3000 watts of halogen lighting on the same circuit, when I plugged it into a different one, the problem went away. Unless I was REALLY working the saw hard, then it draws more current. (like trying to make quick cuts in 1/2" bar stock) I switched to a 20A breaker for extra insurance.

I wonder if the Milwaukee motor acutally draws a bit more than 15amps? like 16 or 17 peak, 15 continuous....Yay for more power, boo for tripping breakers.
